Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

Read what happened when an Extinction Rebellion meeting was disrupted by a protester. Seems they can give it out but have no intention of putting up with it themselves.

By David Atkinson
La Higuera, Bolivia
Guevara is remembered in a mural at Vallegrande hospital where his body was taken.Life passes slowly for the people of La Higuera, a sleepy pueblo in a forgotten corner of Bolivia's eastern lowlands.
But this remote community harbours an uneasy heritage that is set to return to haunt the lives of its inhabitants: this is the place where the revolutionary icon Che Guevara was put to death.
Locals are bracing themselves for an invasion of Che pilgrims with the opening of the new Che Guevara Trail through the area on 8 October this year.
The trail leads by road from the burgeoning Bolivian city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, via the Inca site of Samaipata, onto the villages of Vallegrande and La Higuera.
A $610,000 (£340,000), 36-month project, part financed by the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID), it represents one of the largest ever initiatives to bolster Bolivia's beleaguered tourism industry.
"I remember Che as very handsome; he had great presence and piercing eyes," says Julia Cortes, a 19-year-old trainee teacher at the tiny schoolhouse in La Higuera the day he was held captive.

By this you mean in Cork!!!!
There is also a Cook street (nearly) off Patrick Street in Dublin !!!
yes the meeting is in CORK CITY
"Upcoming Events" lists the Cuban Revolution for September 8. But there isn't anything in the news about it at all. And someone just told me that it happened years ago. Information anyone? Hope I havn't missed it!
You see it wasnt a proper revolution because there was no snow on the ground!
As part of the celebration fo the Cuban Revolution, are we going to hear anything on the suppression of free press in Cuba or Castro's treatment of minorities [particularly his disgraceful treatment of homosexuals in Havana in the 80s]?
I don't think so.
The SWP are quite critical of the Cuban state and regard it as State-Capitalist rather than being a Workers State. So I think you'll get your criticism.
While Cuba deserves to be defended against the economic blockade & US aggression that does not mean human rights abuses should be ignored. Some dissidents were recently imprisoned for disrespecting the President!
Reports of the meetings that have taken place ie attendance, contributions and conclusions??
Surely you are not so naive that you don't know already:
Attendance: Mostly SWP members with a smattering of members of other left groups. Hardly any 'ordinary punters'
Conclusions: Che great, castro not so good, US imperialism really bad (so far so good), solution: join the SWP! (aaaah).
Really, theres no change, just a constant round of meetings where the same stale rhetoric and tired cliched solutions are trotted out by mainly middle class toy bolsheviks who will parrot any line fed to them by their leaders. Such a parody of marxism, I dont know whether to laugh or cry.
PS Ironically Gonzalez is a cut above the usual SWP babbler, at least he knows his stuff about Latin America. Dont bother with torturing yourselves by going to the meetings, you can read his stuff in their journal International Socialism.
The SWP has 600 members. Where there even 50 at the meeting in Wynn's?
There was close to 100 at the meeting.
Having seen an explosion of che merchandice for sale around cork i decided to find out who this guy che really was.Got the usual storys about irish and spanish roots but was horrified when read assassin and bumbler by humberto fontova and" yo soy el che"and also che guevara a biography by daniel james. They tell of guevara ordering several thousand executions on cuban people the shooting dead of a 12 year old boy for looting bread in the local markets. ya a real hero our che.
