offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

The Crown Prosecution Service is appealing against the acquittal of Hamit Coskun, who was convicted of burning the Quran in a protest, reigniting fears Britain could introduce blasphemy laws by the back door.

World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

Read what happened when an Extinction Rebellion meeting was disrupted by a protester. Seems they can give it out but have no intention of putting up with it themselves.

IPSC demo at National Concert Hall, Wednesday

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Tuesday April 27, 2004 23:00author by IPSC - Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaignauthor email supportpalestine at ireland dot com Report this post to the editors

Dublin IPSC will hold a demonstration tomorrow at 6.30pm outside the National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, where a concert is being held to celebrate Israeli Independence Day.

Dublin IPSC will hold a demonstration tomorrow at 6.30pm outside the National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, where a concert is being held to celebrate Israeli Independence Day. We wish to highlight the fact that Israel celebrates its independence while waging a brutal and unjust occupation against the Palestinians, denying them basic human rights and self-determination.

Please come along, bring flags, banners, scarves etc, and please spread the word to friends and supporters.

a friend has told me this is a decoy - he is catering a function tonight for the zionists at an estate in Wicklow hosted by a big wig supporter of Israel - 7.30-9.30

What do you think about the Israeli state's continued existance? do you think it should be abolished?

The people going to the event in the NCH are not necessarily in favour of the occupation of Palestine. I would guess that they are mainly people from the Israeli community in Ireland who are celebrating thier heritage. To mount a protest may be seen as attacking the continued existance of the Israeli state.

I dont' support demands for the abolition of the Israeli state. I think there should be a 2 state solution where minority rights are protected in each state. I think Israel should get out of Palestine, but I won't be going to your protest for reasons outlined above.

I'd ask the protesters to be quiet at there are Exams in UCD that started this week. The Medical and Engineering Libraries are in Earlsfort Terrace (right next to the NCH). At this time of year the last thing we need are very load protests outside the Library.

I couldn't agree more Pat. I look at this site quite a lot, and I'm often struck by how many of the posts are based more around attacking Israel than supporting Palestine - as if you had to choose between Sharon and the suicide bombers. Hence the denunciation of the very existence of Israel, and the reluctance to criticise acts of terrorism on the other side.

I also note (though not so much on this site, more usually on UK and US ones) an undertow of anti-semitism. the standard defense is "I'm not anti-semitic, just anti-zionist". Don't cut no ice with me I'm afraid. Zionism is the movement that led to the the existence of Israel, and the expansionist/imperialist tendancy in Israel is only it's extreme fringe. So one can call one's self a pro-palestinian zionist without contradiction.

And of course, those UCD students need their sleep:)

I agree with what Fergal says. Although I hope he's not too flipant with the point about students needing sleep!

Seriously, I hope that the IPSC are going to be sensible and not be too load. The Library is right beside the NCH, in the same building. The NCH is probably sound-proofed and can't hear you, but the Library isn't! So if they are reading this they sould remember not to be too load with their megaphones. UCD students have been very active in left campaigns throughout the year, wait till after the exams to use megaphones outside the Library!
