Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

The Crown Prosecution Service is appealing against the acquittal of Hamit Coskun, who was convicted of burning the Quran in a protest, reigniting fears Britain could introduce blasphemy laws by the back door.

World Kindness Day may have passed you by. But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

The BBC reported that the coalition troops were attacked with RPGs and small arms fire. Free speech does not extend this far.
If the BBC says so, then it must be true.
Now if only these bloomin Eyerakees would sit down and allow themsleves to be liberated.
The BBC is not an independent news broadcaster and thus will not stray too far from the British governments interests.
Their version of the news is not always the 20/20 truth.Iraqi protesters may have acted in a violent manner and this cannot be condoned but at the base of it all iif coalition tanks were destroying your front doorstep, shutting down your newspaper and dictating in general how your life should be ran for you,you wouldnt exactly be pleased, would you?
Try Fox News if you want some REAL reporting.Puts the BBC to shame any time.
While FOX have given us many good things, the truth is hardly one of them - d'oh
:-)
FOX& SKY are Rupert Murdoch owned mouthpieces.Forget them for anything worthwhile.[Too jingoistic even for me.]
Bagdad Broadcasting central [BBC] as it was beginning to be known around this time last year, was not actually a Brit Govt mouthpiece line tower.CNN and Al jazeria if yo can understand Arabic or even China News channel are pretty good.
These so-called "protestors" (may be my eyes were decieving me) were armed with AK-47 automatic rifles and RPG rocket propelled grenades. The bodies of many of the dead and wounded were dressed in black clothing and green headbands of Sadr's militia.
If YOU saw hundreds of Islamic nuts screaming at you and firing Kalashnikovs I don't think you would be worried about their right to protest. You'd be putting rounds down and picking off Muslim crazies before you could say "no war for oil."
What exactly do these guys want?
Well seeing as they are backed by the Iranian Islamic fundies I think they want a repeat of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iraq.
Why not hand Iraq over to the UN? Oh lets!
Do you think these bastards will see the difference between U.S. desert fatigues and blue UN uniforms?
I don't think so.
Well, it was because of the US's refusal to let them protest and have a voice through their newspaper that this recent up-rising began. Theres no end to Americas arrogance.
When and if elections are held in Iraq the Islamic parties are expected to hold a large majority. We'll see then how much America loves democracy as they've already said that that result would not be acceptable to them atall, atall.
i don't think theres any doubt there were armed iraqi shooting at soldiers
even with my spin filter on this guy there talking about seems a bit dodgey but hey we can make our minds up jsut cos one person posts an article like that doens't mean all the readers will believe still theres a better chance the truth about hte situation will come out on these oages over the next few days then on fox
If you want to get an idea what the protest was like, watch this movie. It's not a true story, but it is eerily similar to what is happening today. Japs and Germans used to be like the Iraqis, but the USA was able to force democracy on them. Ask any Jap if he likes capitalism. Here in the US, TVs and cars are products from a people who used to worship some Emporer. They still have a proud culture, but they've prospered because of what we gave them. In short.... Iraqis will learn to appreciate whats done for them, just like the Fren....., oh shit... nevermind.
If not then how can you state that it was like any other event (in a movie or in real life)?
Are you going to provide any factual basis for your statements that any "Jap" will like "capitalism"?
Do you include Japanese Communists and Anarchists in that stupidly sweeping statement?
"they've prospered because of what we gave them"
Well, the first thing you gave them was two atom bombs, which I'm sure they were delighted with.
Still though Phuq Hedd, he has a point in that Japan is actually even more capitalist than America. It has no social security at all - everything is looked after by the company, which is the main social unit after the family, with government coming only in third place. And the apart from the anarchists, etc, who are very much a minority, they seem to like it that way. Personally, I would loathe it, but that doesn't mean it's not the case.
"watch this movie. It's not a true story, but it is eerily similar to what is happening today".
I remember watching 'rules of engagement' and think the problem with it was that before long some twit would be using it to justify some US military massacre.
Rather than prove to you the good parts of capitalism ( it has a few drawbacks), I'll just show you the negaitives of socialism. First, look at North Korea. Tha is what Japan would probably be like if Tojo and Co. had their way. Orphans and poor dying by the thousands, some cross-dressing freak with a mind bent on destruction. That is what we saved Japan from. And yes, the two bombs sucked, but they'll get over it, just like the Chinese got over their thousands murdered by Japan in the 1930's. Alot of bad shit happened in WWII, millions died, Germans, French, Russians, British, Chinese, etc. What is never really thought about is that the bombs killed somewhere near 150,000 combined. That is child's play when compared to other events. Second, socialism is creating a welfare state of losers who sit on their ass. I know you feel guilty cause you are so much better off, but resist the temptation of guilt.
"In Najaf, the shooting broke out after thousands of al-Sadr supporters gathered outside the Spanish garrison. A spokesman for the Spanish headquarters in nearby Diwaniyah, Commander Carlos Herradon, said attackers opened fire about noon.
The Spanish and Salvadoran soldiers fired back, and assailants later regrouped in three clusters outside the base. Shooting continued into the afternoon, he said.
Along with the four soldiers killed, nine Salvadoran soldiers were wounded, the Spanish defense ministry said in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The Salvadorans are under Spanish command as part of an international brigade that includes troops from Central America. No Spaniards were injured."
If anyone is interested, this came from USA Today, a liberal newspaper. Even they admitted that the evidence shows the gunfire was started by the Iraqis.
Go to USA Today.com if you want to see the full article for yourself
"Rather than prove to you the good parts of capitalism ( it has a few drawbacks), I'll just show you the negaitives of socialism"
Christ, I could do that myself. So rather than prove that you can't argue properly, I'll just tell you that I'm really good at it.
Read any newspaper, or internet article, and you'de see it wasn't a US massacre. It was El Salvadorian troops, in the Spanish-led sector, which also contains more Latin American contigents
USA today is about as liberal as the Sunday Independant. And twice as stupid.
Capitalism is good, it relies on people's love of money, and their pursuit of that. When people are working with selfish interest, it benifits others. If Im rich and I own a company, I have a bunch of workers on my payroll who have benifited from me. That is a very basic tenet of capitalism, and that's why it works. The problem I have iwth it is that sometimes the little guy gets fucked in the procces. I wasn't in the mood to elaborate, but you mistook my response. If you have an actual argument, and not just something to bitch about, please post it ASAP.
