Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

NO BREAK UP OF CIE,DUBLIN BUS OR AER RIANTA
Transport Minister Seamus Brennan's plans to break up and privatise CIE and Aer
Rianta. This will mean worse services and workers conditions. In Britain the privati-
sation of public transport meant more accidents and deaths.
NO BIN CHARGES-NO PRIVATISATION
The bin charges are a double tax and the first step to privatisation.Other essential
services like water will follow if the Government and the European Union get away
with it.
DEFEND PUBLIC HOUSING,AN POST AND PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
Social housing is being sold off -private developers make a killing on the land.De-
regulation of An Post has let private companies cherry-pick the profitable services,
which may lead to job losses. The Higher Education Authority says Irish universities
should be privatised, worsening eduction chances for working class people
IRISH GOVERNMENT AND EU ACT THE SAME
The EU and Irish government are pushing de-regulation and privatisation -across
all public services. The draft EU Constitution that EU leaders and Bertie's govern-
ment support would allow the EU to make trade deals -on our behalf -in all public
services. These include opening trade in health and education services, and letting
multi-nationals in to run them.Under this Constitution countries that did not want
such trade could be outvoted in the EU's Council of Ministers.
On February 20 the Article 133 Committee of the EU meets in Dublin Castle. They
make proposals to the EU's trade negotiators on what deals they should make. The agenda for Feb 20 includes:how to re-start the international trade talks that col-
lapsed last year -because 'Third World'countries rejected EU pressure to let more multi-nationals into their economies;EU-US trade. The aim of these discussions is
to develop business opportunities for the big companies of Europe and the USA.
We know the agenda but not the details. The proposals of the Article 133 Committee
are kept secret until after the international deals are done. Our own government
won't tell us in advance what they are going to say at these meetings:what public
services they may offer to let multi-national companies operate;or what they are try-
ing to get poorer countries to agree to

Jump To Comment: 1 2was crap. Poor turnout, boring speeches, Another Europe might be possible alright but this certainly wasnt it...
Of course da usual suspects were there, but it was great to see community groups there for a change, and the lady from one of the community groups (Rita Fagan) from St Michaels's Estate in Inchicore gave a real passionate, and from the heart speech. She was like a breath of fresh air. Did you hear her speak 'attended'? Anyway thats what you get when you have a lunchtime protest. Numbers are never great for lunchtime demos no matter who organises them, unless you have a big trade union mobilisation.
