Gov sides with developers over young families on housing

category national | consumer issues | press release author Tuesday January 20, 2004 16:22author by rayo - lp Report this post to the editors

Labour Party Spokesperson on the Environment, Deputy Eamon Gilmore, has accused the government of “siding with property developers rather than first time house buyers” following the publication of statistics yesterday showing the average house price in Dublin now tops EU 300, 000.

Deputy Gilmore commented, “Whilst yesterday’s Housing Statistics Bulletin showed that there is enough zoned land to satisfy housing demand for the next five years in Dublin and seven years nationally, the sad reality is that prospective house buyers are completely priced out of the market by ever-increasing costs.

“Prices continue to increase at more than four times the current annual rate of inflation. Most people’s incomes will rise only at or around the level of general inflation, so families seeking housing will still find a huge gap between what they can afford and what is available.

“The continued increase in the cost of housing is all the more difficult to accept, given that the price of building materials has remained virtually static over the past year.

“The main cause for spiralling house prices is the huge increase in the cost of building land. The government has persistently blocked any attempt to do anything about this; including voting down a Labour Party Bill designed to control the cost of building land in the autumn.

“Until the government is prepared to face up to this issue the cost of houses will continue to rise and young families will be unable to afford to live in the areas in which they have grown up.”

Labour could have ensured that the economic boom was not disproportianately reflected in house prices.

They chose not to do so because labour representatives overwhelmingly belong the class that has profited from increased house prices.

That's why it is called bourgeois democracy.

And thank God (or Allah) for that.

Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom the devil by his touch has driven to madness.

That is because they say: Trade is like usury: but Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury....

Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity, for He loves not any ungrateful sinner....

O you who believe, fear Allah and give up what remains of your demand for usury, if you are indeed believers. If you do it not, take notice of war from Allah and His messenger, but if you repent you shall have your capital sums; deal not unjustly, and you shall not be dealt with unjustly. And if the debtor is in difficulty, grant him time tin it is easy for him to repay. But if you remit it by way of charity, that is best for you if you only knew.

[Surah al Baqarah, verse 275-280].

Housing, a cup of coffee, pints of beer - you name it, its 3 or 4 times more expensive

the banks are laughing

the fat cat property speculators and developers are just getting fatter and fatter

Bertie and Fianna Fail are a mafia

Goodbye!
