Latest IAWM bulletin

Well done to the hundreds of thousands of British anti-war protestors and those from Ireland who joined them! George W. and Tony Bliar are were well and truly BUSHED-OFF !

What a brilliant week in England  George Bush was unable to move freely around London. He was confined to shuttling between Buckingham Palace and Downing Street. The state procession was cancelled, there was no address to parliament, and he was not even able to drive down Sedgefield High Street for his £1 million pub lunch. Although the protestors were denied the route of the march initially, the Stop the War Coalition forced the police to back down. It was a victory for civil liberties that they were able to take to the streets and march where they wanted and when they wanted.

The toppling of Bush’s statue in Trafalgar Square was the high point of the march and was front-page news around the world. No one can be in any doubt that he met mass opposition in Britain or that millions in Britain still oppose the war and the continuing occupation. There were also tens of thousands marching outside London on the Wednesday, including large protests in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle.

We had a small but very vocal demonstration outside the US embassy in Dublin in solidarity with the protestors in Dublin.

Internal Exile for Shannon Protestor! Meanwhile in Shannon, the case of most of the protestors charged with blockading the road at the demonstration at Shannon on 21 June was adjourned. However, one defendant, a resident of Shannon town was fined €200 and ordered to absent himself from his home and Shannon Town whenever the Gardai inform him that a protest is happening at Shannon Airport. Is this Justice? Is it constitutional? Does the judiciary make up the rules as it goes along? The Stalinist tactic of internal exile is obviously finding more and more appeal with the Co. Clare judges.
