Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

But it won't have passed by your children, whose school will have been sure to teach that climate action and open borders are essential elements of 'kindness', says Steven Tucker.

event notice
Friday November 14, 2003 12:40 by Jon Glackin - Issues Magazine issues at eircom dot net 01 873 0071

In an awareness stunt to raise awareness of Homelessness in Ireland Dave Young will be performing a similar feat as David Blaine for 44 hours at St. John Rogersons Quay, Dublin Friday 14 Nov at 6 p.m. Chill Blaine!!
American magician David Blaine was suspended beside the Thames in London for 44 days surviving only on water allegedly. This generated massive media interest worldwide and makes Mr. Blaine a very wealthy man indeed. Well now its time to do it
THE IRISH MANS WAY!!
Dave Young, the outrageous comedian, proposes to suspend himself in a similar Perspex glass box along side the Liffey for 44 HOURS. As Dave puts it I will test the power of the human endurance surviving on the bare essentials in life. The box will be empty except for the following items, a TV, DVD, a soft bed, a sofa, a small refrigerator, my Sony play station and of course all the food and water I could ever need.
Contact with the outside world will be minimal, only my barber, masseuse, my tailor, milkman, postman, TV repair guy, pizza delivery boy, a string quartet and a cleaning lady will be allowed near the box, if an ice cream van goes by I may need one of them too, if I fancy a drink-I will order it, if I need some food, (say a nice fillet minion, not too well done, with sauté potatoes and fresh vegetables, a side order of pepper sauce, and some tappyocka pudding) I will order it, if I hanker for some music to get me through the mental torture, a string quartet will play me some reassuring music...."
Dave will be entering the box this evening at St. John Rogersons Quay at 6 p.m.
Issues magazine working with Dave on this awareness of Homelessness are encouraging people to bring along non-perishable foods... Unlike London, where they threw the food away, we will be collecting the food to give to the Cappuchin Brothers who will distribute it directly to the Homeless community.
We also hope that people can bring along sleeping bags and warm blankets that will be collected for the Focus outreach team as part of the Issues sleeping bag appeal.
I hope everyone can drop for a while over the 44 hours and all donations of food and sleeping bags are very welcome.
