When Dicey summarised the principle of parliamentary sovereignty he wrote: "Parliament can do everything but make a woman a man and a man a woman." Alas, thanks to the European Court of Human Rights, that's no longer true.

Blockading Shannon a good idea

category cork | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Wednesday November 05, 2003 19:22author by cork peace alliance Report this post to the editors

Cork Peace Alliance back blockade.

´ Cork Peace Alliance welcomes the oppurtunity provided by the Irish Anti-War Movement protest at Shannon airport on December 6th to highlight and hopefully obstruct the US war machines` use of this airport. The Cork Peace Alliance urges all people opposed to the occupation of Iraq and the use of Irish resources to aid this brutal war to take part in the blockade of Shannon airport on December 6th. We encourage everyone to do so in a spirit of non-violence and solidarity as the organisers have laid out.
The greater the number who attend this protest the harder it will be for the airport and the state to continue this activity. The oppressed of Iraq cannot but take heart from this action. We will do our level best to mobilise as many people as possible in active support of the demo as we have done consistenly since the issue of the use of Shannon airport has been forced onto the agenda.

Great idea. Let's hope the SWP don't find some way to wreck it.

Congrats and thank you to friends and allies in Ireland from the USA. Hope your action goes well.

I think we can assume that the above comment is from a troll or a cop. Even the SWP aren't that thick and arrogant. Don't rise to it.

Also, judging by a comment made by Aoife Ni Fhearghail on another thread, the SWP have eventually decided to get on board and support the blockade. Obviously, our trolling friend is working with out-of-date material.

The Irish anti-war movement was in chaos before we got involved. Please contact the SWP and we can help you prevent another shambles happening in Shannon.

Dirty rumour has it that certain mischief makers have already booked flights as well as secured inside positions in the airport for the day in question.

Looks like the airport is gonna be squeezed from all directions. Let's hope NASA don't decide an emergency spaceship landing from above.

Oh, the planning nightmare for the shickaloney!

HOORAY!

And don't forget that the Cork organising meeting will be held at 8pm on Thursday night (6/11/03) above O'Donoghue's of Drawbridge Street. All welcome, and bring your ideas as well as yourselves!
