"Summit Should Go Ahead As Planned"

A chairde,

First of all, I am surprised and disappointed by this news. The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign views the ISF as being of great importance, and we have been keen to be involved.

A chairde,

First of all, I am surprised and disappointed by this news. The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign views the ISF as being of great importance, and we have been keen to be involved.

The IPSC has been actively seeking a speaker for the anti-war plenary as discussed at previous meetings and has now secured Osama Qashoo, an organiser of the International Solidarity Movement's campaign of non-violent resistance to the Israeli occupation. Given that a previous meeting agreed that this plenary would be organised through the IAWM, PANA and NGO Peace Alliance, we are liaising with the IAWM in this regard. We will also be proposing a workshop for the summit, which Osama will participate in. We have been publicising the ISF among our members and supporters and hope that many of them will be able to attend the summit.

The IPSC is also offering to provide Irish translation for any ISF documentation. We may also be able to provide Arabic translation for a limited amount of publicity material.

Unfortunately, we have had considerable difficulty finding members able to attend the Thursday night preparatory meetings, and I would like to apologise for our non-attendance at some of the more recent meetings.

I consider the ISF to be a very important development for Irish civil society, and strongly feel that the summit should go ahead as planned on the 17-19 october unless there is very good reason to believe that there will not be enough in attendance to make it worthwhile.

Le meas,

1: This was NOT posted by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign

2: The ISF Summit IS going ahead as planned, with an impressive programme of speakers and workshops; as noted by Barry, full details will be available shortly.

- please see the 200 or so ISF posters we put up along the route of last Saturdays anti-war march

- we handed out flyers to everyone who was there and again on Tuesday night at the Dail

- the momentum of the ISF has been building since last November

- if for anyone its not the way you like it thats because you did not take up the invite to get involved.

To summarise quickly:

- there were two meetings a while ago with poor attendance and those who could not make the meeting were actually getting along doing their work to make the ISF happen - there was a slip up in the weekly reporting structure to the meetings as to the progress on various aspects of the ISF -thats all: a reporting glitch - now stop this nonsense of people talking of cancelling the ISF - rubbish

- this weekend we will be revamping the website and putting up the latest list of plenary speakers and workshops info.

1st ISF is Friday 17th to Sunday 19th October, UCD Students Centre (Fri. pm + Sat. am, pm) and Mother Redcaps am; with Carnival 4 Change in Smithfield on the Sunday 19th; Four Plenaries and so far we have 15 workshops representing a huge spectrum of anti-neoliberalist / pro-democracy perspectives.

I will post the 1st ISF Programme on the Newswire over the weekend in all its super diversity!!

all the best folks,
Barry.

Are you just taking to posting random letters between groups without any context?

Surely it would be good form to explain what's going on...instead of assuming every reader lives in an activist bubble?

And most importantly, has the ISF actually been cancelled? Your letter refers to it, but doesn't give any background or proof.
