news report
Monday September 29, 2003 14:47 by Chekov - WSM & anti-bin tax campaign
RTE news is reporting blockades in Finglas, Baldoyle & Dundrum According to RTE online news the 2 or 3 bin-tax campaigners who refused to 'purge their contempt' and promise not to blockade trucks have not been sentenced. The court has adjourned their cases until October 13th. It seems that they are unwilling to send ordinary folk to jail at the moment. The RTE news report is also reporting solidarity blockades in Finglas Baldoyle and Dundrum. |

Jump To Comment: 5 4 3 2 1The people in court refusing to 'give undertakings' or 'purge their contempt' not 'ordinary folk' but SWPers. One of them is Brid Smith - one of spokespeople for the Bin Charges Campaign (and, incidently, RBB's boss). On the positive side, the fact that she wasn't immediately jailed does show the other side on the back foot.
It would be a terrible thing altogether if some unscrupulous people were to put them on ALL the bins, and would of course be condemned by all right-wi..., sorry I mean all right-THINKING people.
Does anyone know what these stickers look like, what size, shape, precise colour, etc? so that us right-wi..., sorry, right-THINKING people will be able to know who the tax-dodgers are.
wouldn't it be an idea to "swap" the labels?
On what authority are these labels being placed?
Would intefering in the tax paid bin selection provoke greater problems?
Other than Finglas, Baldoyle and Dundrum, blockades took place in Firhouse and Lucan. Multiple blockades took place today again in Fingal.
The continuation of the blockades in Fingal was to be expected. The Councils however appeared to be taken aback by the first blockades in the Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown and South Dublin areas. The campaign cannot allow the Councils to pick off areas one by one.
South Dublin:
In one tiny area of South Dublin (a few roads), the Council has begun to implement non-collection. Two men walk along before the trucks putting red stickers on the bins of non-payers. The bin truck following only collects bins with no stickers.
If you see anyone putting red stickers on bins, remove them immediately and contact the campaign. If you were unlucky enough to be one of the few people suffering from non-collection in South Dublin today, make sure you remove the stickers. You can then put out your bins as usual next week, but make sure that your street is being watched next bin day to avoid a return of the sticker men.
