Record 111,000 Claims From Asylum Seekers in Labour?s First Year Thu Aug 21, 2025 19:04 | Toby Young Applications for asylum were up 14% on the previous 12 months after a surge in migrants reaching Britain in small boats, according to official figures. So much for Labour's promise to "smash the gangs".

The Truth About Britain?s Wildfires Thu Aug 21, 2025 15:00 | Paul Homewood It is simplistic to blame the recent spike in wildfires on climate change, writes Paul Homewood. A more likely cause is the rewilding of uplands, supposedly to cut carbon emissions, and poor management of forested land.

Dramatic Slowdown in Melting of Arctic Sea Ice Surprises Scientists (But Not Climate Sceptics) Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:00 | Toby Young The Guardian, of all papers, has acknowledged that predictions about the disappearance of Arctic sea ice may ? just may ? have been exaggerated. Paging Gore Vidal: Can we have that prize back please?

THIS SATURDAY at 4pm: Direct Action against Top Oil on Amiens Street
dublin |
anti-war / imperialism |
press release
Wednesday September 24, 2003 12:54 by Direct Action Against War (Dublin)

Assemble after the main march. Calling all: Anarchists, Bohemians, Catholic Workers, Direct Actioners, Environmentalists, Fairies, Grassrooters, Homosexuals, Indymedia Heads, Joint Smokers, Kids, Libertarians, Marxists, Non-Aligned, Occupiers, Pacifists, Queers, Ravers, Situationists, Trouble Makers, Underground Activists, (cant think of anything beginning with V), Wierdos, Xtians, Yellow Belly Liberals, Zebras !? (I hate those last few letters!!)
THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th: Direct Action Against War are calling for a direct action against TOP OIL/TEDCASTLES OIL who refuel the US military planes in Shannon, in breach of our neutrality.
This action is being supported by Reclaim The Streets and Dublin Grassroots Network Against War.
We will be marching along with the main IAWM/PANA/NGOPA demonstration which leaves the Garden of Remembrance at 2.30pm. This demonstration is finishing up around 4pm in Merrion Square outside the back entrance to the Dáil.
At the end of the IAWM march we will assemble at north east corner of Merrion Square (closest to Nassau Street).
We are then marching to the TOP OIL GARAGE ON AMIENS STREET and will blockade it.
This will be a peaceful, non violent direct action.
WHY BOYCOTT TOP OIL? The company, which refuels the American military at Shannon, is called Top Aviation Fuels. This is a subsidiary of Top Oil, a sub-section of Tedcastle Holdings. (taken from the Boycott Top Oil website: http://boycotttopoil.cjb.net/)
Top Oil refuel the war planes that carry US military personnel and equipment.
WHY A DIRECT ACTION? Direct Action is a method of protest that deals directly with the issue. Previous examples of succesful antiwar direct actions are the attacks on the planes by Eoin Dubsky, Mary Kelly, and the Catholic Worker 5, and other demonstrations that have breached the perimeter fence at Shannon Warport.
Top Oil gains financially from the deaths of human beings - and are aiding the breach of our neutrality. By shutting them down we are aiming to hit them where it hurts - in the pocket.
We hope that all those that favour this method of action to help stop refuelling of US Military planes in Shannon will join us on this demonstration.
Join us at the end of the main march at the north east corner of Merrion Square, at Nassau Street. Assemble around the black flags to symbolise the death of innocent people at the hands of the US Military.

no smoking this time!
Can all smokers please take note that it is very, very dangerous to smoke on the forecourt. It was a point of contention on May 5th this year that a number of people were smoking on the forcourt while standing next to spilled petrol. Complaints were made that rts organisers hadn't considered this and asked people not to smoke there.
At this event everyone should take responsibilty for their own safety and not smoke there and also ask anyone who does light up there to put it out or move to the road. Perhaps when we arrive there if someone has a loudspeaker they could also mention it.
With regards to last May People should also remember that buying anything from the Top Oil shop defeats the purpose of the blockade!
‘People should take responsibility for their own safety and not smoke there.’
It’s a petrol station, for cripes sake! Everyone’s safety is at stake, not just the blithering idiots who decide to light up. That's why I'm not going, cos I could never trust some of these dopes to cop on.
people start up combustion engines at petrol stations all the time ya know spark plugs and the like and its very hard to accidentaly blow yourself up on a petrol station forcourt unless there gallons of petrol leaked on the pavement

Its not the leaked fuel that causes the hazard, but the fumes. An engine in a car is not an exposed ignition source,a lit ciggie or doob is...
