Applications for asylum were up 14% on the previous 12 months after a surge in migrants reaching Britain in small boats, according to official figures. So much for Labour's promise to "smash the gangs".

The Truth About Britain?s Wildfires Thu Aug 21, 2025 15:00 | Paul Homewood
It is simplistic to blame the recent spike in wildfires on climate change, writes Paul Homewood. A more likely cause is the rewilding of uplands, supposedly to cut carbon emissions, and poor management of forested land.

Lucy Connolly and Ricky Jones: the System Worked as Intended Thu Aug 21, 2025 13:00 | Nick Rendell
Lucy Connolly's jail sentence versus Ricky Jones's acquittal shows not two-tier justice but two-tier laws ? the system worked as intended, says Nick Rendell.

Dramatic Slowdown in Melting of Arctic Sea Ice Surprises Scientists (But Not Climate Sceptics) Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:00 | Toby Young
The Guardian, of all papers, has acknowledged that predictions about the disappearance of Arctic sea ice may ? just may ? have been exaggerated. Paging Gore Vidal: Can we have that prize back please?

I declare Wesley Clark
Oh I do declare Wesley Clark.
There as less ways of
Getting out of Mountjoy
than getting in.
But we really have to remind the public of one of the most impressive escapes of might I add a long list of impressive prison escapes.
30 years ago this Hallowe'en [31 Oct 1973 at at 3.40pm], JB O'Hagan, Seamus Twomey and Kevin Mallon escaped from Mountjoy.
They went up and over the wall of the exercise wing of D yard with the assistance of a hellicopter, to the applause of other inmates and the utter embarrassment of officialdom.
Cosgrave the man who was Taoiseach at the time was in the midst of a "law and order" campaign.
Unfortuantely for later tacticians this hellicopter escape left restricitions on use of the airspace above Mountjoy which last to today.
%-) Joe & Clare this is your anecdote for day 2.
We anarcho-dudes can't offer you a helli, but sure there's a few ballads a propio....
I'm not sure if you missed The Joint Committee on Health and Children, Thursday at 9.30 a.m. in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.
and you probably didn't get to meet Dr. Sin Win, Prime Minister of Burma (in exile).
Terrible what's happening in Myanmar isn't it?
I reckon you'd agree that is past time we had a drugs debate.

Would you do us a favour and ensure that there's enough paper and computer access, printing, freedom of expression and that sort of stuff "in the Joy"?
so that all may move to full participation in society and the rehabilitation that promises?
I'll look after the little rascals now, so neither Dep. Lowry T.D. or Sinn Fein need worry about the technical grouping be crimalised.
Hello Little Rascals.
Bertie, you seem like a friend.
%-)
for crimalised read criminalised.

(am working on a clare daly ditty!)
No Prison no prisoners

no prisoners no prisons
prisons no prisoners no
no prison no prisoners
It's still a little tent of blue.
& men still stare up at it.
& the chapel bell still tolls
but the lime long did its work.
Did God come in to this place ever?
Does he leave with the priest at five?
It's sill a little tent of blue.
I got out of bed late today.
I can get out of bed late today.
the bed.
zzzt. tzzz.
Joe! my old man, how you doing?
Today the Oireachtas discusses:
The Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women’s Rights will meet at 2.30 p.m in CR2, Leinster House.
Agenda:
Discussion with representatives of the financial institutions on crime prevention measures.
That's seem the most interesting, but the rural housing seems a bit "topical" as well. But to be honest I'll be doing my best to stay in bed as often as I can, you know, this week. It's a habit.
Now back to TIME.
Habeus Corpus
little Latin
nice screws

do you have a smoke Joe?

Your olafactory receptors have attained "aclimatisation".
Your sleep pattern is approaching normal for incarceration.
Your digestive system has not however adjusted.
Debate on Prison. Open or Closed.
Time.

In Japan we (the anarchists) lost one of our finest minds for three years to the doctors of spin. But you may sing if you want.
It took us four months to take him back.
But your hands are unbound when you eat.
It took us 300,000$ of lobbying to send in Amnesty, but your constituents are joining you.
Time.
Bzzzt.
They're losing power in the real world.
Bzzzt.
mysterons.
And in prison conspiracy reigns.
it is still a tent of blue.
do you have a smoke Joe?

Joe the nice screw who told you
the first 24 hours are the worst
was a liar.
You know that now.
There are no nice screws.
The sixth day is the day the before the seventh day.
One week.
All day you've thought and are thinking now:
tomorrow a week.
Didn't you used to say
I take it a day at a time?
well now you do.
Prison debate:
Open or Closed
Access to your children or not?
access to your family or not?
Constant degradation or not?
BZzzzzt.
Everyone counts the days.
Everyone is innocent.
Everyone smells.
Everyone makes noise.
Everyone wanks.
Everyone dreams.
Bertie counts the days.
Bertie is innocent.
Bertie smells.
Bertie makes noise.
Bertie has a wife.
Bertie of what does he dream?
After the Trilateral Bertie, what do you dream?
