Rid the streets of dawdlers

We, the Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association wholeheartedly support 'The Green Traders Association' in their campaign to stamp out dawdling on Grafton Street.

Press Release
Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association appeal to City Council
-----------------------------------------------------------

2 July 2003

We, the Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association wholeheartedly support 'The Green Traders Association' in their campaign to stamp out dawdling on Grafton Street. In addition we are requesting that Dublin City Council examiner the phenonomen on Henry Street and surrounding streets.

The Henry Street / O'Connell Street area is now blighted by groups of people stopping to take photographs or gawp at the Dublin Spire. And this problem is going to get worse as the tourist season progresses. The lighting of the spire next week will only aggravate the situation when the shorter evenings draw in.

We're asking Dublin City Council to consider building viewing platforms on Henry Street and Talbot Street to allow rubberneckers to view the spire without stopping traffic. These platforms would allow shoppers to walk underneath unhindered by people attempting to take photographs and would allow tourists to take better photographs. This would portray Dublin a positive fashion through their holiday snaps and encourage the tourism industry.

It's only a matter of time before traders start losing business to out of town shopping centres. For those shoppers without cars this would be a disaster as shops decide to relocate, thus decreasing choice.

Who exactly are the Dublin City Centre Shoppers Association? How many members do they have? how does one become a member? What is the address of their headquarters? What is their mission statement?

Or is it just a group set up by city centre businesses to push forward their own agenda?

People are entitled to dawdle wherever they like, and take photos wherever they like. There's more to the city centre than shopping you know!

there should also be a minum speed of 3 mph enforced by a special force of attack dogs and snipers with some kind of stun guns.
Also if yoy step foot on any of the aforementioned streets it should be manditory to sopend at least 20% of the contents of your purse/wallets on overprced shoddy goods made by at least a semi evil corporation

What the hell?? Im guessing this is a joke, it must be...who joins this organisation??..

Public space??? or consumer highway..god be with the days of the leisurely stroll. The country, no, the worlds fallin down around our ears and someone starts a shopping association.nice one!

author by davepublication date Wed Jul 02, 2003 22:45author address author phone Report this post to the editors

it was obvious that the shoppers association was either a joke or not an actual shoppers association as much as a shopkeepers secret soc..

"It's only a matter of time before traders start losing business to out of town shopping centres. For those shoppers without cars this would be a disaster as shops decide to relocate, thus decreasing choice. "

So the city center shoppers all live within walking distance of the shops they're concerned about.. or else they would have already heard of Dublin Bus, a mythical public transport system that some claim has the ability to magicvally transport people to places far far away
