US military aid to Ireland suspended

category sligo | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday July 01, 2003 17:49author by pete ranks Report this post to the editors

Reuters has an interesting piece on the suspension of military aid to over 50 countries because they are supporting the setting up of the international crimainal court. One of the countries is Ireland, what do we get the money/aid for?

No more military aid for the Colombians.

author by joe raniipublication date Tue Jul 01, 2003 19:01author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Janus was looking the wrong way when he made that posting. The government of the Republic of Colombia has not bowed to the considerable US pressure to accpt US immunity in war crimes etc.
It is therefore on the list of countries to be denied aid.

Now how will the ill-informed who have been posting here to attack the Colombian government reconcile that with their ignorant claims that Colombia is a US stooge ?

have just ratified (on the 24th of june) an aid package of 3 billion for pakistan for supporting the invasion of Iraq and the "war on terror"
This aid package includes 1.5 billion in military aid to be spent on defensive weapons (whatever they are. What a good idea.. 1.5 billion worth of weapons can cause far far more than 1.5 billion worth of damage.. maybe america wants to rebuild kashmir after india and pakistan are done fighting over it?

but someone told me today (his brother is in the army or something) that the americans train the 'elite' irish army, the Irish Rangers or something they're called (?). So maybe they'll stop training them or something?

(bear in mind, I have just read this article, and didn't know about it when this guy was telling me, or I would have asked more questions)

that the irish army rangers actually trained the specal forces from other countries? they have training camps in wicklow and various army bases around the country..
Of course i was probably just a minor victim of"isn't ireland great"-propaganda by the media and poiticians

Do we have to have this in _every_ thread?

author by Duruttipublication date Wed Jul 02, 2003 17:34author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Its been deleted three times already. But allegations re my sexuality remain up on another thread.

Why?

author by Raypublication date Wed Jul 02, 2003 17:42author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Editorial policy at the moment seems to be containment. If the allegations are in a thread where there's already a lot of back-and-forth, they'll probably stay up. We're more concerned about keeping stuff in the relevant threads - if every thread, no matter how it starts, ends up being arguments with the SP then everyone else will get pissed off.
I'm hardly going to tell you to stop criticising the SP. But one-liners about the SP being police agents, on completely irrelevant threads, will almost certainly be removed. (Besides, you don't want to make the SP look like long-suffering martyrs, do you?)

Durutti, I will not comment on your state of mind or about your apparent obsession (so this doesn't get removed) but you are driving everyone nuts with these comments. How long did you spend on the computer today, if these comments were deleted 3 times already?

author by Duruttipublication date Thu Jul 03, 2003 13:35author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The three deletions were on Tuesday. As for my state of my mind, maybe its caused by the SP rewriting history. That leads to condusion. ;))
