Cherry-picked temperature data taken from near exhaust-spewing runways does not a scientific study make, says Chris Morrison. The BBC's latest steaming pile of "extreme heat" alarmism is just more extreme nonsense.

Voting via the internet - online debate

category national | politics / elections | news report author Monday June 23, 2003 12:42author by bAL4 the Magnanimous Report this post to the editors

This was sent to me today and I thought that it may interest some of you. It is a webcast debate around the issue of e-voting, something that will no doubt become more prevalent in this corrupt little country of ours.

"We would like to bring to your attention details
of the first webcast
debate to be held in the Oxford Union Debating
Chamber, taking place on
Monday 23rd June 5-7pm. The debate, hosted by the
OII with kind support
from EDS and Oracle will address the motion 'This
House has confidence
in voting via the Internet'.
Chaired by Stephen Coleman, Cisco Visiting
Professor of e-Democracy, the
debate will see Jim Adler, CEO and Prseident of
Votehere speaking for
the motion, and Jason Kitcat, Founder and
Co-ordinator of the Free
e-Democracy Project opposing the motion. Richard
Allen MP will join
Stephen Coleman on the panel.

For further details of the event, or to follow
the webcast live please
go to
www.oii.ox.ac.uk.
We will be taking questions for the speakers live
via e-mail on the
night; these should be sent to

webcast@oii.ox.ac.uk. Questions can also be sent
in advance.

This is a less significant reason to avoid it, but one to add to the list.

Internet voting will encourage the messers to vote. By having to go out of your way to vote, it ensures that you actually care about politics, and you are not just someone that happened to be on the 'net and cast some random or stupid vote.

Translation: "We in Sinn Fein would never be able to cheat in an election online the way we cheat in real ones, so we oppose it".

E-voting - an extremley bad idea and one that needs to be resisited. there is a mailing list operated by Margaret Mc Galey who has published on this subject and will be campaigning on it.

To join go to;

As for internet voting - impossible to satisfy two requiremenst for fair and free elections namely, that the ballot is secret and secure. For to be able to ensure that the ballot is secure identification of the voter needs to be confirmed before the voter gets to mark the ballot, then the ballot needs to be marked, lodged, stored and counted without the voters identification being traceable. Internet voting does not make these two requirements compatable.
