Abu Dhabi, Alittihad Daily, 3/26/2003 -- The UAE leading semi-official daily newspaper, Alittihad, reported today that a US government delegation has arrived in Amman, Jordan, yesterday in its way to Baghdad for negotiations with the Iraqi government about an immediate ceasefire. A diplomatic source told Alittihad that the US government delegation included four leading members of Congress as well as Elizabeth Cheney, the daughter of the US Vice President Dick Cheney, representing the US Department of State, where she works as an Assistant to the Deputy of the Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs. It's hard to know what to make of this story. Pravda.ru was one the first high profile news website to report on this story. But at that time, and in all previous reports, the angle has been that Elizabeth Cheney was planning to go to Baghdad as a human shield. Previous reports even said that Dick Cheney was going to the Middle East to intercept his daughter and dissuade her from that action. Those reports were never confirmed. Perhaps the Western media are not the only ones putting out disinformation at this time. On the subject of disinformation, there are credible reasons for suspecting the supposed "uprising" in Basra may have been a smokescreen to cover casualties resulting from "Coalition" actions against the local population. Caveat lector, is the best advice we can give in relation to news reports at this time. |

OMG. Look what I just found inside the New York Times.
'Mr. Rumsfeld was asked by Senator Judd Gregg, Republican of New Hampshire, what he thought of the idea of a cease-fire, which Mr. Gregg said he had heard was being promoted by some Arab states and France through the United Nations.
"Oh, I have no idea what some country might propose," Mr. Rumsfeld replied. "But there isn't going to be a cease-fire."'
