We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

World Warplanes run out of Shannon

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday February 07, 2003 19:57author by James McKenna Report this post to the editors

Todays announcement by World Airlines that it is pulling out of Shannon is accompanied by denials that it is as a result of the Peace Camp and Anti-War protests

They said they have workers in Frankfurt that were doing nothing and that the decision was taken before the present protests. But was it taken before the writing was on the wall in the Dubsky case? Or before Tim Hourigan reported the denied flights?

Vincent Wall of Aer Rianta said this evening that the revenue from all flights associated with the US Military through Shannon and ancillary revenue for 2002 was 9 million Euro.

This seems like a pathetic amount of money compared with the 60 Million Euro Minister Smith just spent on 10 new Pilatus PC-9M trainer airplanes. It wouldn't build the base of that stupid spire in Dublin. It wouldn't put the wings on that nice new jet Berti and Celia spend their evenings picking from the many glossy magazines on their glossy table. "Oh, Dat wans luvely Celia". "Ah, I don't know Bertie, the wings are real common".

It wouldn't pay for two of the 40 PIRANHA IIIH 8x8 vehicles they bought recently while closing hospital services

When the Government was told to buy the 40 APC's from MOWAG of Switzerland without consultation or permission from the Irish people they were really buying from General Defence in the US who in fact is owned by General Dynamics, who do 60% of their business with the US Government, surprise, surprise.

General Dynamics to whom Berti and Michael Smith gave away our money make all kinds of tanks and guns , including nuclear attack submarines. Nce one you Bertie, well I supposed you didn't get that bowl you promised us/yourself.
