 trouble for sellafield Devastating blow to Sellafield- good news for anti-nuclear campaigners The nuclear plant at Sellafield in Britain has been dealt a devastating blow this evening, and anti-nuclear campaigners are confident that the plant is now in grave danger. Greenpeace have claimed that Japan which is Sellafield’s biggest overseas client, has ordered a halt to its plutonium trade with the plant. This decision came in the light of reactor faults which were discovered at one of Japan’s biggest nuclear plants. Greenpeace’s Shawn Burke said that “over the last couple of weeks it has started to emerge that a number of nuclear reactors in Japan had serious problems related to corrosion.” Following an emergency press conference tonight in Tokyo, the president of Japans largest electrical company, Tokyo electric, announced their plutonium programme would be indefinitely postponed. According to Shawn Burke, “the reason for this is that it has been revealed that Tokyo electric and the government have been covering up vital safety inspections over a number of years for the reactors, including reactors licensed to use plutonium mox.” Tokyo electric is BNFL’s 2nd largest Japanese client. They had hoped that Tokyo electric and other bigger Japanese clients would be signing contracts for hundreds of tonnes of mox fuel. “They will put a brave face on it,” says Shawn, but “they know it is catastrophic for future operations at Sellafield.”

it'll be bloody damn amazing if some nuclear leakage or waste ends up in the Irish sea, your food, your air, your water == CANCER!!!!!! === DEATH!!!! No escape from nuclear fallouts. Check out some Chernoybl kids and see how amazint it is. Go to County Louth and visit the 100s of people dying from Sellafield linked Cancer!!!

...there's nothing on Greenpeace's site about it and none of the main Japanese papers Thursday or Friday editions have any mention of it.
Here is a link to a Guardian story from July, it deals with the Japanese rejection of BNFL plutonium on the grounds that quality control data had allegedly been frabricated. Certainly BNFL has been hit hard by the Japanese refusal to use reprocessed Mox fuel since 1999 following an accident which resulted in two deaths. Tokyo Electric Plant company is refusing to use Mox at its plant due to safety fears but the government is trying to persaude the public that the fuel is fine.
BNFL built a £400 million plant for Mox, with Japan expected to create 40 per cent of its business. Hence BNFL is now getting desparate and its finances are not looking too hot.
The whole thing is a sham, costing the taxpayers from both Britain and Japan, but expect the governments to push Mox use through.
The Tokyo Electric boss had this to say at a conference: "We must get ahead of the anti-nuclear movement". He talks about how to push the use of Mox and gain good PR with the public so that they can "prevent the general public from being unduly influenced by actions of the anti-nuclear movement".
