Renewables are not cheap and are never going to be, says David Turver. With over £12 billion being paid in subsidies to or because of renewables each year, the claim that renewable will save us money is a myth.

The Guardian's Marina Hyde has mocked Russell Brand for his baptism in the Thames. It's easy to scoff, says James Alexander, but at least Brand, like his new religion, is trying to find the truth.

Letter to US Ambassador

recent suicide attempt

Chelsea Manning is a truth teller, The US lied about the Iraq war; She should be released and compensated

12 March 2020

Dear Ambassador

Further to the message which I left on your answering machine, and as there is no email address on your website I am constrained to write this in open letter form only.

Today I was horrified when I was informed by various news outlets that US citizen Chelsea Manning has been hospitalized after attempting suicide.

Chelsea is a person of the highest integrity, intelligence and courage. She has been responsible for revealing the ugly truth about a horrific war in which she herself had been caught up.

Because she revealed the truth she has been persecuted by the same US authorities who were the authors and perpetrators of that unjust war. Those authorities told lies to justify their killing many hundreds of thousands of human beings without any justification whatsoever. Chelsea Manning told the truth and uncovered their perfidy.

The original perpetrators are no longer in power in the US. But a new administration carries on their vindictive and relentless attack on the personal welfare of the truth teller, cruelly putting her back in prison after she had been released by President Obama, after she had spent six years in military custody.

Their justification for this outrage is that she refused to give evidence to a grand jury that would facilitate the extradition of fellow truth teller Julian Assange from the UK to your country. This is an outrage.

The morality of human actions should not be gauged by narrow nationalistic criteria.

There is a strong case to be made for the appearance of a former US President before a war tribunal on charges of war crimes.

Meanwhile Chelsea Manning should be freed without delay and recompensed for past wrongdoings against her.

With best personal wishes
