for more objective information about what happened on london anarchist bookfair here is a timeline from the day, as far as I understand put together by organizers who tried to deal with the conflict on the day...

http://bookfairtimeline.wordpress.com/

I was present, and feel really saddened and angry about what happened...

All i read everywhere is outcry about Ciaronf being attacked/censored, without any expectations on him to take responsibility for his threatening misogynist, racist and homophobic behaviour....or not at all need to change it...

The fact that someone has done lot of good doesn't mean that they are perfect person or right in every way....
I wish there would be more challenge to misogyny, racism and transphobia back here too. Sure it would lead to less exclusive spaces...

We have long way to go and a lot of work to do to challenge manarchism...

The bookfair debacle has been done to death on indymedia.org.uk. We don't need it on here too, although this article could be seen as an invitation to kick the debate off again.

The timeline mentioned in the comment above is just as subjective as everything else. First hand accounts that didn't fit the intersectionalist agenda didn't get included in it so I wouldn't take that as a definitive record of what happened.

I'd recommend the article about the intersectionalists - it explains a lot.

i agree from large part, no need for another pointless back and forth online flamewar, and no one is perfect...

i think i've read the thing about "intersectionalists",
but to be honest i am tired of seeing this fight within the radical left, need to decide "who is right and who is wrong" and our inability to have a discussion - the case on london bookfair is very nice example - where "older left" dismisses younger feminist/intersectionalist generation and vice versa... in my understanding anarchism has never been about (false) unity..
i think there is very little understanding, and very little will to be challenged, fear of loosing status quo etc...

The question is one of censorship. The issue is one of free expression. If you can't get it right on that, give up the label anarchist
and minimise the confusion

O'Reilly was street speaking a above 20 yards from the entrance to the London Anarchist Bookfair (similar style and content to the video above). A dozen or so people were engaged. in the forum, when the forum was attacked.

These British authoritarians (like Maggie Thatcher their gender is irrelevant, call them intersectionalists, anarchists, whatever) acted like the self entitled middle class products of an imperial culture that they are when dealing with someone who is Irish and working class who obviously does not know his place in the latest Brit casr system. They did not engage or "challenge", they closed down a forum by drowning it out with infantile chanting of insults (based on age weight ethnicity gender). They then physically assaulted O'Reilly hoping he would reply in kind, so they could play the gender card. This is generally know as the "kick the dog" strategy. Kick the dog until it bites and then have it put down.

They were invited to have a rational debate, but were either incapable of rational debate or would not lower themselves to engage someone they believed was beneath them. Their authoritarian behavior was challenged by an older working class Turkish anarchist, but their attitude to Turks is the same as to the Irish it seems.

They then made a huge tactical error of expanding their lynch mob to attack the Manning Solidarity event at The Casa, the Dockers pub in Liverpool. There they assaulted Casa bar staff, who happen to be members of the organised working class. The lynch mob now have a major issue with the Liverpool Dockers and are presently running scared. Don't think they will be taking this behaviour beyond their London Anarchist Bookfair playground.

Interesting development on the left this "intersectionalism". PC gone mad and losing sight of the common goals.

If I was a vested interest threatened by left politics and intersectionalism did not exist, I would probably invent it to divide and conquer my adversaries.

Ciaron is a force for good on the left. It's disappointing to see him a victim of this divisive nonsense.

As they say, "no good deed goes unpunished" , eh Ciaron?

All I can do is sigh and shrug when I read of the ideology-driven backbiting and niggling snide talk among people who claim to be aiming at a better and just society. This internal feuding is a greater constraint to achieving working relationships with a wider public than any conspiracy-driven infiltration, deception and splitting tactics that state police and military intelligence could devise. Who needs enemies with such self defeating activities and thinking among small campaigning groups?

Mr. Apel Goes to Washington
Supreme Court Skeptical About Free Speech at Vandenberg Air Force Base

Thursday, December 12, 2013
by NICK WELSH

John Dennis Apel estimates he’s appeared in front of a judge about 20 times in as many years, so being in court is almost old hat for the veteran Catholic Worker peace activist from Guadalupe. But last week, Apel acknowledged he was more than a little nervous about appearing in front of all nine judges making up the U.S. Supreme Court as part of a legal showdown pitting his free speech rights against the property rights of the military commanders at the Vandenberg Air Force Base. Unfortunately for Apel, it turned out many of the justices were much more focused on property rights and impatient with attempts by his attorney, Erwin Chemerinsky, to keep raising the free speech issue. “You keep sliding into the First Amendment issue,” said Justice Antonin Scalia, scolding Chemerinsky. “You can raise it, but we don’t have to listen to it.”
