for freedom, brotherhood among peoples, peace, solidarity or for democracy. True bastions of freedom are Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, UK, Ireland and the United States, with inevitable emphasis to New York, Washington, LA, Boston, and many others and to the Irish and British flawless performance , which supports a variety of wonderful sites. Jump To Comment: 1 2some reasons:
lack of funding, lack of people submitting decent articles, rising (IMHO misguided) use of corporate spying sites such as farcebook for activists because of their ease of use and "chic" factor.
Lack of tech resources to keep the sites looking "cool" and up to date. (sadly this is a factor yes. Today's culture is all about style over substance.). Also, relentless sabotage in the comments sections by vested interests. Open publishing is very vulnerable to this kind of abuse.
People need to realise that corporate sites are not our friends, and all record, photos, videos, articles constituting the entire record of your campaigns can go down the memory hole in a single step. Plus it's insidious facial recognition algorithms and graphing technologies can build up a profile of all the people in your campaign, invaluable information which is readily available to governments who want it.
Use the resource properly and support it and it can be great. It is only as good or as bad as the articles and comments posted here by members of the public.
Garbage in, garbage out. Use it or lose it.
Fred - I agree.
We need free speech. We need good informative postings.
People need to be able to express opinions freely and Indymedia Ireland should be supported in every way possible to continue against the right wing and vested interests, who have control over their own media sources.
