A month after the arrival of Scotland's Hate Crime Act and it appears reports of the demise of the Scottish Enlightenment may have been premature, no thanks to the SNP but due to the doughty spirit of the Scots.

Should governments be able to censor online content for the entire world? That's what Australia is claiming the right to do. But do they really think China and Russia should be able to choose what the world sees?

Irish Greyhound Board give school kids 'goodybags' as they hope they become the future 'punters' at irelands tracks.

School children to be introduced to gambling and animal abuse.

School children to be introduced to gambling and animal abuse.

Who would have thought the school curriculum in Ireland would be introducing children to Gambling and animal abuse?
The Irish Greyhound Board, the IGB, are now offering students and teachers tours of Greyhound stadia around the country. These same racing tracks allow children to bet their pocket money as no age limit applies to anyone placing bets. The IGB, synonymous with trying to export Greyhounds to China and with cruel treatment towards unwanted hounds are using school tours to indoctrinate children into gambling.

We will be urging the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn, TD to refuse to let the IGB feed children untruths and false information for their own aims. Surely the high incidence of both gambling addictions and animal abuse in Ireland should be a red flag to anyone concerned about children’s welfare.
We ask the Minister to stop the IGB seducing children with ‘goody bags’ in gambling establishments..
A well- known Greyhound Industry site ‘Greyhound nuts’ boast about children being the future punters.

They quote ‘Great idea, the kids are the future punters’.

The cap brigade that are on the site are hoping to use school children to keep their ailing industry alive.
We guess they will omit the fact that they [the IGB] are responsible for drugging, drowning, mutilating, burning with acid, strangling, abandoning and causing untold suffering to thousands of gentle greyhounds every year. 25,000 new dogs are born for racing every year. Very few dogs reach 2 or 3 years of age. A slow dog is a dead dog.
The number of Irish attending Gamblers Anonymous meeting in Ireland has spiraled in the past six months.
"Less than a year ago meetings around Dublin city had just five or six people – seven at most – but now some are catering for up to 30 people," a Gamblers Anonymous spokesperson told the Irish Examiner.
"Gambling is something that is seen as attractive and acceptable – like the horses or the dogs – but no one realizes how many people are in trouble with it."
