 Independent protest in solidarity with republican prisoners in maghaberry. PRISONER SOLIDARITY GROUP-CORK CITY
Since the closure of the notorious H-Blocks, Maghaberry prison has become the destination of republicans who have been interned,'held on remand' or imprisoned as a result of their opposition to the british presence in Ireland.Maghaberry,Antrim, synonomous with beatings and torture, is now the scene of a looming crisis which could see an escalation from dirty protest to hunger strike by republican prisoners.,The dirty protest as it stands has been going on now for over six months,some have chosen to empty waste under the cell door out onto the landings while others are smearing their waste on their cell walls. We call on all revolutionaries,trade unionists,republicans, dissidents,socialists,anarchists and humanitarians to stand as one in solidarity with those who uphold the integrity of their struggle by refusing to be criminalised by the british state. A public protest will take place on jan 21st @ daunt square cork city at 3pm. Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4A successful protest took place in cork city today to highlight the plight of Republican Prisoners
in Maghaberry who are suffering torture at the hands of a prison run riot squad.The ongoing dirty protest is nearly seven months long,with no end in sight.
The central issues are controlled movement and strip searching, but there is also the wider issue of Selective Internment.
Today a wide range of groups and individuals came together both young and old ,up to 30 Comrades from Éirígí,32CSM,IRSP,RSF,WSM,Independent Republicans,Independent Anarchists,Gay rights/anti Fascist activist,Ex-prisoners,and even a veteran of the border campaign!
Many leaflets were handed out and there was quite a lot of interest from members of the public.
Thanks to all who attended.Todays message was one of unity for the prisoners!

Good to see lots of diverse groups uniting on an issue based protest. There has been too many divisions in the past. Its time we began standing together like this more often on issues of common interest and started resisting infighting often deliberately triggered by sectarians.
Good job. This is the way forward. Unity in the face of those who would destroy our society in the coming years. I'm talking about FG, FF, labour and their corporate oil and gas , state asset privatisation and 1% financial sytem friends in europe, UK and the US here.
