Is it time to reconsider the view that Liz Truss was the architect of her own demise, with her tin-eared mini-Budget spooking the markets? Yes, according to Truss (and others). It was the Bank of England wot done it.

heard in support of a very courageous Teresa Treacy, who
simply decided to protect the land she loves.
Clearly it is now the case that, in this country, Corporate
profit will always take precedence over individual rights.
Any law which allows a woman such as Teresa to be
jailed for trying to protect the environment, is an unjust
law, and should be struck down.
Fill the prisons with the greedy, grubby, gangsters who
stole from us our past efforts, and future hopes, and
send Teresa back to us, so that we can thank her for
reminding us what a backbone is.
It wasn't the 'arty types' who just erected the new Supervalue bay-blocker on the town.
When that terrace was demolished the bay was all of a sudden right there, centre of town, making the most striking coastal townscape I can think of in the region. Even Roundstone couldn't beat it.
If there was any democratic forum where the public could have vented aternative proposals, it might have been stopped, giving a town dependent on tourism a whole new resource and identity.
The arty farters are the very ones with the perception to have overcome the short-term fixations of the ever-bribable Paddy and his accountant mentality Chambers of Commercialise everything. And its arty types give time and energy for zilch to create the Arts Fest that draws revenue, while the real farts sit back and sell it for profit with minimal input. And again, plenty of ridges could carry windmills for power, without visual pollution if the hunger for revenue kept it to just making the region optimally self-sufficient rather than overkill for export. Might take some of those badly placed pylons out of the tourist picture. Some of them are so badly placed you'd swear there was a Kerry planner on a sabotage mission(no slur on Kerry there, I mean that in a commercially tweaking sense).
Stop digging Connemara man, thats the arse-end of Ayers Rock ringing on your shovel. Plus we're wandering into a bigger field. Mind you, it is all connected. Its a cultural pandemic of monetarism.
Agree.
D'Arcy would have whipped the present arty crowd out of Clifden.
Arty people in Clifden who allow the bay to fester are not Engineers like Nimmo and D'arcy.
Nimmo was living in a different age, before galloping deforestation threatened as it does today, using technologies that have largely been overtaken(radio beacons and sattelites have superseded light beacons). Besides you use 'environmental' in too narrow a way, indicating you dont understand your own premises.
Or do you think the people arguing for years to clean up the raw sewage in Clifden Bay are Luddites?
And the original road from Galway to Clifden was ye ol sea road. Quite efficient. It linked the region to Spain and north Africa at a time when Connemara had no tele.
I dont think, from that response, you know what ENRON is, and represents. Check it.
And among D'Arcy's concessions, from the colonising crown, was market rights that transferred control of the economy from the locals to the imperial centre. None of the environments are simple. Cost benefit analysis needs be as comprehensive as feasible.
The plan for the ESB, as everything else, is centalisation of power(literally)and revenue for maximal extraction from the population. Given current(oops) and developing technologies we should be going the opposite direction, and instead of slicing through this womans exemplary efforts part of her land could be generating wind-power instead of high-tension pylons. We need more smaller distributed generating installations(better security of supply for starters), but that dont suit the privaising agendas of our new colonial masters(not that the old neighbour has gone away).
Take the time to watch Sean Ryans video up there. And shed the delusion that progres is necessarily good. Look where them Progressive Democrats progressed us to, neo-con sub-prime bondage, and their tribe is still in charge, wearing a fresh blue shirt, with a pink collar.
The English diarist Samuel Pepys famously said about a supposed poison called tea:
"It must be a slow poison. I have been drinking tea for seventy years and it has not killed me yet."
Dead right there Opus.
If environmentalists won there would be no road from Galway to Clifden.
There would be no Slyne Head Lightouse.
And D'Arcy would never have built Clifden.
And the brilliant Scottish engineer Nimmo would never have built the lovely village of Roundstone.
smells like another rural ENRONification scheme.
just to support this lady who should not be in jail,i also suggest a protest outside prison again AND outside esb office?
Theresa you are a very dignifed and good person and you are an inspiration to us all.
Keep well xx
Here's a video from last Friday's vigil. Around 70 or so folks turned up.

Teresa Treacy Vigil
I read with interest the discourse about Teresa Tracey's attempt to save her trees. Has nobody come forward to help her challange the infringments of her inalienable rights? I have read on a number of sites that when a Judge cites one for contempt it is important to establish the basis of the contempt ie. criminal or commercial. If the promoters of those sites really believe in the truth of the information they distribuit then they should be contacting Teresa and giving her the help she needs.
For a start the pictures related to this story would suggest that the ESB or their agents trespassed onto her land and carried out damage to her property and murderd some of her trees. Teresa or her agents must have the right to impound any machinery unlawfully on her property untill such time as any damage done in repaired. Or in the event of refusal to repair the damage such property could be sold and the proceeds used to effect repair of damage. As trespass on private property and damage to private property could be concidered as a civil matter there is not any need to involve the Gardai.
Our culture is addicted to consumerism, which lives possessive love ends up destroying what it desires, and woe to those who stand in its way. Teresa's impulse is a positive, healthy and natural one and cannot be allowed take root. The rich and powerful suffer from the disease of possession and control and like a crack addict, are willing to destroy everything and everybody to feed their habit.
Those of us who know better must fight to stop them.
Amazing how quick they can imprison people like Teresa or a protester in rossport for nothing at all.
But whenever it is a banker or politician involved, it takes years of agonising and expensive court cases to not put them in jail for even a day. Anglo slimebag Seanie Fitzpartrick the financial terrorist and the architects of the bank guarantee, and the shell ceo sleep soundly in their beds while Teresa rots in prison.
See our cynical system for what it really is and stop living in the matrix people. Rise up like the Icelanders and kick these privatising assholes out of government, jail the bankers, nationalise the gas, leave the euro and create our own government printed debt free currency ( http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-25501564537900...90544 )
and let the thieving bondholder property gamblers sing for their money.
Anarchy would be better than what this judge and corporation are doing. Living in anarchy is much better than living under the subjugation of any state, be it fascism (as apparently Ireland is now) or a democracy. In anarchy, it's live and let live, and based on this one should keep their hands off other people their property.
What the judge probably means is chaos. Anarchy is not Chaos. Chaos is; "A condition or place of great disorder or confusion." It seems to apply better to what became of our current governments.
It's against our human rights to impede on our property and ourselves, no one else but us has the authority over us. It's already insane for a judge to believe he has any authority to put another human away for protecting their own property/self. As long we don't infringe on another human being we should be left alone. The one at fault here is the judge and those working for the corporation.
The contractor employed to do the dirty deed is Dermot Caset. Details below. Please contact him and let him know how you all feel. I will be doing so.

Apparently, it is ok for corporations to drive heavy machinery onto private property and begin tearing up the landscape. Meanwhile, Teresa Treacy is in prison due to "contempt". The actions of ESB, Eirgrid and Justice Herbert indicate an attitude of, "It's not anarchy when WE do it".
This is not justice. It is hypocritical and bullying. They are doing what they want because they can.
I am very happy to hear that people are organizing, protesting and protecting the property. Tell the people operating the equipment to refuse the order to go near that property.
Reading my ever rising electricity bill worries and prematurely ages me!!
I'm sure being jailed will prematurely age Teresa
I guess ESB are on the side of actively prematurely aging Irish citizens

Cheers to everyone for their support, petitions and facebook pages.
The Teresa Treacy Support Group is maturing after friends and neighbours of Teresa met over the last few days in Tullamore. Our hope is to facilitate bringing people together so that we can all work together.
We've had a lot of calls and will stay in touch with everyone.
We've set up the Teresa Treacy Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Teresa-Treacy/1644717369...=wall in the hope that we can streamline Facebook activity and keep people updated with how organising is progressing.
You can also email us at the address above and we'll add your email address to our updates list.
This is a simple 'people's campaign' growing spontaneously, we'll all meet somewhere sometime in due course. Friday at the prison will be a good start.
I am shocked to hear that Teresa has been jailed. I call on the Minister for Justice to intervene to have her freed. It's a shame that agreement could not have been reached except in this heavy -handed way.
Teresa, I am on your side

very good to hear all this, great that somone is doing something,on the ground.we will be there on fri eve.
This woman is a victim of utter injustice. This must be a terrifying time for her and we all need to do what we can to support Teresa, get her home and make sure this abuse of power cannot be allowed to happen again.
The vigil will be a great opportunity for us to figure out how we can help Teresa. There is a 'FREE TERESA TREACY' Facebook page too guys.
Please tell as many people as you can.
