Posters on politics.ie will be familiar with the vitriol directed at Indymedia. Accusations of stasi style censorship are routine. For some time now, however, the fact that censorhip on politics.ie is more frequent, arbitrary and subjective than anything seen on many other sites has become pretty obvious. read full story / add a comment

This is the last week of the annual Turner Exhibit in the National Gallery's Print Room. The blurb on the boards describes the provenance of the bequest and the agreement between the estate of the collector and the Scottish and Irish galleries. We only exhibit the Turner's in their climate control cases during the month of January, this is largely because they are drawings and washes of landscapes and are fragile. The light is weakest at this time of year in Dublin and conducive to a visit. read full story / add a comment ![]()

We had decided to have our breakfast on the henge this morning. As I drove towards the N3 a low loader carrying a digger was driving towards Lismullen. Approx 10 protestors arrived in Lismullen, some from the road and some from Rath Lugh. Security were present during the entire time we were there. 2 protestors were assaulted within a few minutes of arriving. I tried to block the fuel coming out of the Lismullen carpark but Mark Cleary kept pushing me out of the way and the fuel tractor got away. Steve from Kildare, one of the security men assaulted another protestor, he was pulled from the fence and thrown onto the ground head first, and hurt his neck. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Young Republican delegates from across Ireland and representatives of International youth movements mobilised in Dublin this weekend to take part in a packed and upbeat Ógra Shinn Féin National Congress. Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams delivered the main address and helped launch Ógra’s new drugs and alcohol campaign called N.A.R.C. (Not Another Ravaged Community) campaign. The Sinn Féin President told the assembled; Comhdháil Náisúnta, that the Lisbon treaty was a bad deal for Ireland. “The Lisbon Treaty, like many of the treaties that went before it, does not deliver reform, efficiency or democracy. It is a bad deal for Ireland. We deserve and can achieve better.” read full story / add a comment ![]()

tara Brabazon is Professor of Media Studies a the University of Brighton and Director of the Popular Culture Collective. She's an author of a few bits & bobs on internet use, media culture & is building quite a profile for herself for attacking Google & Wikipedia claiming that they undermine educational & didactic processes & more than Harry Potter actively contribute to turning our kids brains (& minds) to utter mushy shite. Thing is, her arguments are proving to interest & influence far beyond the generally airified chitchat discussions of Media Studies university departments. Today's "Liberation" the French leftwing daily reports how the "Just say No to Wikipedia!" stickers are appearing across the USA in high schools as well as public amenity libraries. The cultural link with Nancy Reagan's "Just say no to Drugs!" ought be obvious. read full story / add a comment ![]()
