In their creative, nonviolent resistance against the Apartheid Wall, for the Xmas Day protest, Bil'in's villagers decided on gifting the Israeli Occupation Forces manning the checkpoint at that obscenity a box of luxury sweets, the intention was for five Santas positioned well back from the Wall - so as to allay any IOF fears that they may be rocks to slingshot them, however, before it could transpire, the well humoured protestors were malevolently doused in a blizzard of tear gas and this continued and continued. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland-Palestine Campaign (IPSC) has learned that the 'Viva Palestina' convoy bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza is back on the road.

The convoy - which includes a number of vehicles and 10 people from Ireland - had been stranded on the Jordan/Egypt border because of the refusal of the Egyptian government to allow it to enter the country to complete the final leg of its 4,000 mile journey to Gaza. It was originally planned that the convoy would bring its aid via the Rafah crossing on 27 December.

On Sunday 27th December the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign erected a memorial tree in Limerick city centre to mark the first anniversary of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza last winter, The names of the 1415 people who were killed during the 22 day assault were printed on colour-coded cards for the public to attach to the tree - blue for men, pink for women and white cards for the over 300 children killed. A detailed list of the names, addresses, gender, ages, and occupation of those murdered was displayed on large laminated sheets for the public to study and see for themselves the fact that the overwhelming majority of the victims were innocent civilians.

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has just heard that Zoe Lawlor from Limerick and Hilary Minch from Dublin, both IPSC members, were among 23 Gaza solidarity activists taken off a bus to al Areish today by Egyptian police. Those detained are currently being brought back to Cairo under police escort. The police are holding their passports.

The 23 activists include two Irish, 15 Germans, two Palestinians, two Turks and three Americans. All were intending to participate in the 'Gaza Freedom March' on 31 December. The Egyptian government has systemically harassed the international delegates to the march since their arrival in Egypt and is refusing to allow them to cross into Gaza.
