At 1am this morning I was called by the Melbourne Sun Herald to comment on mainstream Australian media reporting a payout from the Victorian government to some of us assaulted at the World Economic Forum 2000 in Melbourne. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,21322057-661,....html http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,2132....html Reports refer to me as a "serial protestor" -even tho' I don't lobby protest, sign petitions,vote- and place me in the wrong place at the wrong time for when the police bashed me. I assured the journalist whatever financial payout the Victorian state gives me wil go to funding further nonviolent resistance to war and transnational theft! read full story / add a comment

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the Pitstop Ploughshares action at Shannon Airport in which a US navy plane was decommissioned with the aid of tools and symbols of peace. "Pain, tears, fear, hatred. But also euphoria, the desire to see an end to war and to fascism, the longing to create a new Italy. Life had a meaning in those days; it wasn't just a matter of dragging yourself from one day to next. Why deny it? Ettore knew: those months in the mountains had been the finest in his life. Afterwards there had been nothing of real interest. He didn't head for home. He turned into Via Lame, and arrived at the Porta. The sky was full of stars, hundreds of stars, maybe thousands. He had done it a thousand time, and he did it again. He remembered the battle, shot for shot. There was fog, and someone shouted, 'Garibaldi's fighting!' He had yelled with all his might, 'Red Star is winning!' " Ettore in ‘54’ p.310 read full story / add a comment

For the Christian exploring radical salvation history and seeking to be faithful in a time of escalating and expanding imperial war on the Middle East, the co-option of the Christmas season by the state is always a problem. How do we remain faithful in a context where our radical traditions and stories are being co-opted to feed rampant consumerism that drives the ever expanding market and diminishes finite ecology? read full story / add a comment ![]()

It was a great night had by all, and more importantly a lot of money was raised (over 2000 euro) for the Prisoners dependents. Former INLA POW and member of the Ard Comhairle Gerard Forward from the Short Strand in Belfast gave the main speech. Gerard gave a well received rousing speech as well as a standing ovation. Soon afterwards a representatives of Dublin Brigade INLA read out a speech which included the condeming of those criminal elements (who are not and never where members of the Republican Socialist Movement) who use the name of the INLA to line there pockets. The representative stated that Dublin INLA had a list of names of these parasites and that a number of them had been forcibly warned to desist from there activities or face serious concequences. He stated that members of Dublin INLA were not criminals and that they would not be detered by the "no proof media sensationalists, who operate to a securicrat agenda. read full story / add a comment

The Aviation Authority authorises the refueling of CIA torture flights and the 3,000 (presently) U.S. troops passing through Shannon Airport weekly to an illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. If you are opposed to the war, consider making your opposition visible one hour a week in your community, on your campus or outside a site of significance. read full story / add a comment

We cry out for a church that speaks without fear of consequences, including loss of revenues. We understand that we live in a time of great fear and peril. We need to remind ourselves that we are not to fear those that can kill the body, but instead to fear those that can kill the soul. Our domestic and foreign policies have left us a nation without a soul. We call on our Church to be a prophetic voice, a sanctuary, and a source of encouragement to those who want to work together in community towards peace and justice. read full story / add a comment |
