national / anti-war / imperialism / news report Thursday October 30, 2003 19:55 by IAWM
It was resolved at the recent AGM of the IAWM "to establish an expert legal committee (either independently organised or in affiliation) to advise the movement on legal strategies to advance its aims" these broadly being to hold the Irish Government accountable to Law, to end Irish participation in wars abroad and reverse the increasing militarisation and repression at home. We therefore invite all interested legal professionals to attend a meeting at The Teachers Club, 36 Parnell Sq. Dublin 1, at 2pm on Saturday 8th November 2003, to discuss and launch this initiative. See below for full details of event. N.B. this is an extraordinary meeting intended only for qualified legal professionals - following the discussion a full account of the proceedings will be published here. read full story / add a comment

Earlier today, ed horgan, Conor Cregan, Eoin Rice and I went out to Shannon airport with Scott Ritter who departed for the States. A few days earlier he had arrived in Ireland to testify at Mary Kelly's trial in Kilrush and to give soem public talks on the war on Iraq. As a sign of appreciation we decided it best to give him a warm send off. The Aer Rianta folks wanted to watch too! :) They were annoyed to see us there and accused us of trespassing, even though they knew we were just seeing someone off. read full story / add a comment

On June 3rd I received a letter from Aer Rianta's lawyers (Aurthur Cox) threatening me with imprisonment if I attend further demos at Shannon airport. Shortly afterwards, Commandant ed horgan and fellow planespotter and peacecamper Conor Cregan received identical threats. see my reply to this at. http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=51020&search_text=trespass this week I got another letter, not answering my questions but repeating over and over the same threat. HERE is my reply which I will hand deliver to Aurthur Cox's offices tomorrow during Grassroots. They don't want to debate the war, now they want to stifle protest. And these are the people who tell us they're safeguarding democracy. read full story / add a comment

Why has there been such silence over the landmark judgement of J Kearns in 'horgan v. Ireland' -- ed horgan's case about the Constitution and helping to kill Iraqi people? Kearns had more power to stop Shannon shenanigans than any individual politician. And yet there's not a peep about it from activists campaigning against the war. read full story / add a comment

Mr Justice Kearns' judgement in ed horgan's High Court case against Ireland for assisting the Anglo-American attack against Iraq includes some real gems for an appeal, and for activists facing charges relating to anti-war direct actions.
