Today a group of climate activists disrupted the AGM of Ryanair at the Radisson Hotel, Dublin Airport. Campaigners dropped a banner from the hotel with a subvertised Ryanair logo reading ' LYINAIR.CON'. One campaigner confronted a dumb-struck Michael O'Leary at the podium, while other eco-clowns juggled outside. The PLANE MAD campaigners are campaigning for responsible aviation. By pioneering the cheap flights model Ryanair have been responsible for a significant proportion of the massive growth in the aviation industry. Aviation is currently the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases. While governments and individuals are gearing up to tackle their carbon emissions it is necessary to accept the reality that flying is the most polluting form of transport. RTE and other media outlets are reporting that the Shell pipe laying ship is to leave Broadhaven Bay within 48 hours. Some journalists are speculating that the ship's captain has had a crisis of conscience and has left the area in response to the hunger strike, but Shell's statement claims the move is in response to damage to the ship's equipment. In situations like this, it is usual that false claims are made, and even deals are agreed to, purely to diffuse the situation. read full story / add a comment

Members of TaraWatch and other groups will sell pieces of coal , dressed as 'fat- cats', tomorrow outside the Green party offices on Suffolk Street at noon tomorrow. The coal will signify the Green's preference for creating new taxes, to penalise carbon use, instead of seeking cuts in spending on carbon producing infrastructure like tolled motorways, in the upcoming Budget, like their own policy documents call for. read full story / add a comment

On Sunday 24 August 2008 Save tara campaigners presented an international gathering of poets and musicians at tara to honour and celebrate the place and our heritage. It was organised by Susan McKeown and Paul Muldoon. Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney and Paul Muldoon, Pulitzer prize-winner, read their poetry and were joined by Grammy award-winner Susan McKeown who was accompanied by Aidan Brennan. That the production wing of global energy corporation, Shell, has a presence in the west of Ireland is now well known. Shell have been joined by another of their kind; Exxon Mobil, sometimes known as Esso. It's a company which, like Shell, has left a long dark oil slick like trail of controversy and notoriety across the globe. The Sixth World Archaeological Congress (WAC-6) was recently held in University College Dublin. During the Congress, there was a special session hosted by the WAC Standing Committee on Ethics, which entailed presentations by various stakeholders in the Hill of tara / M3 motorway issue. Addidionally, tara was raised at the Plenary Session, at the conclusion of the congress, and a resolutions regarding tara's World Heritage value was passed. Now, WAC wants to further investigate the issue, and has appointed an executive member to compile a report. read full story / add a comment

tara Campaigners worldwide are supporting a petition to the Irish Government calling on them to re-inter the remains of individuals whose graves have been desecrated by the ongoing construction of the M3 Motorway in the Gabhra Valley near the historic Hill of tara in Co.
