national / eu / press release Wednesday September 23, 2009 14:25 by Patricia McKenna

It is truly ironic that the EU Commission is here in Ireland urging Irish voters to vote Yes to the lisbon Treaty under the guise of jobs and the economy, while it is allowing new member states, like Poland, to provide massive financial bribes to companies to move their operations out of Ireland. - The EU Commission could not care less about Irish jobs. They just want lisbon passed so they can get more power for themselves at the expense of the people. says McKenna read full story / add a comment

Many issues have come up so far in the lisbon debate, some very relevant, some less so. The key issues the Socialist Party have been raising so far are workers rights, public services and miltarisation. Elsewhere Jow Higgins has looked at the issue of workers' rights (http://www.joehiggins.eu/510) and public services (http://www.joehiggins.eu/489). Here, he goes into precisely how lisbon boosts the armaments industry and is another step towards a militarised EU. read full story / add a comment

In his first political foray since the 2007 general election, Mr Michael McEvil, former attorney general and the man who is credited with destroying the Progressive Democrat Party, entered the debate on the lisbon Treaty by launching a new organisation- Evil People for lisbon. In a statement, Mr McHorrible, who had returned from hell for the occasion, claimed that the debate on lisbon needed to be nuanced and not a “phony Punch and Judy show” between the two sides. A section of the population is being excluded from the debate, he said, the evil people. "There needs to be a space for truly evil people, the racists, fascists, and those who have always rejected workers' rights, peace, and disarmament as genuine goals." read full story / add a comment

national / eu / press release Saturday September 19, 2009 18:32 by Patricia McKenna
Former MEP, Patricia McKenna has accussed the EU Commission head, Barroso of illegal interference in Irish referendum, she said "its conveniently opportune that less than two weeks before Irish people vote on the lisbon treaty the Commission announces that it proposes to give €15m in aid to help former Dell computer workers find new jobs. , Barroso is head of the EU Institution that will gain most power if the treaty is ratified, he should stay out of the debate and respect the existing EU treaties until such time as they are changed”. He is abusing his position and this it quite unacceptable in a supposedly free and democratic society.” read full story / add a comment
