Amnesty's report on weapons used by both sides in Gaza finds much to condemn. http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/asset/MDE15/012/2009/....html The group is particularly hard on the U.S., having found numerous remains of American munitions -- including white phosphorus shells from Pine Bluff Arsenal, and a Hellfire missile made in Orlando. Another weapon which bothers Amnesty is a mysterious munition, filled with cubic particles. This type of ultra-precise strike capability is supposed to limit collateral damage and civilian casualties. So we turn once again to Garlasco's comment, from an earlier conflict: "It is unfortunate that these weapons are being developed specifically for use in densely populated areas which may negate the intended effect." read full story / add a comment ![]()

In February, the WSM continued its series of public meetings about why capitalism is in crisis and why working people should refuse to make sacrifices to benefit the rich. Limerick and Bray were the latest. We will be continuing our efforts to spread anarchist ideas in this vein over the coming months, with meetings planned for Drogheda, Galway, Derry, Navan, Tralee, Tipperary and Ballina. Also, our next radio show will be appearing on NEAR 90.3 FM, a Dublin community radio station, in the near future. read full story / add a comment

23 February 2009 The Waterford occupation has entered its fourth week. Workers at Waterford Crystals are fighting for their jobs after the Waterford Wedgwood Group went into receivership. Negotiations are still in progress as two rival companies Clarion Investments and KPS Capital Partners talk to the receiver and union officials about a possible purchase. As our leaflet on the march in Dublin pointed out either bidder will cut jobs that’s why we need nationalisation under workers control. read full story / add a comment |
