Delegates to the U.N anti-racism conference in Geneva walked out on Monday in protest at Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s address . The Rescue will be a rally held in 100 cities around the world on the 25th of April to attract media and political attention to this issue and pressure the government to commit support to the protection of civilians in war-affected zones and see the arrest of Joseph Kony. Hundreds of people, young and old, will symbolically abduct themselves and sleep outside in solidarity with the child soldiers until a figure of cultural or political influence arrives to rescue us and make a public statement showing support for our cause. read full story / add a comment

Cheka kidogo – a photography exhibition by Rankin Cheka Kidogo (Swahili for ‘laugh a little’), an exhibition by fashion photographer Rankin will be in Wolfe Tone Park (beside the Jervis Centre) and O’Connell St (opposite the GPO) from 30 April to 31 July. Rankin traveled with Oxfam to a refugee camp in Eastern Congo and the images he took paint a fascinating portrait of life for the survivors of the ongoing conflict in the Congo. In the last week considerable Irish attention and media speculation has been given to the reported 7th assassination of Evo Morales plot since he was democratically elected president of Bolivia, a state with which Ireland shares no embassy. When a young Irish man died in the company of his friend, a war veteran of the Balkan conflict, in a Bolivian hotel the president of Bolivia was out of that state preparing to meet with Barack Obama. For the first time an assassination plot against Morales sparked no comment from his friend and ally Hugo Chavez. Curiously, because after the first reported plot Venezuelan had offered all intelligence assistance to the Andean government to protect it from its many perceived enemies. Instead Chavez presented Obama with a book on CIA black operations in Latin America which has since become a best seller.
