World War Two was an imperialist war. It had nothing to do with democracy. Britain, France and even the USA has colonised and repressed peoples around the world. There was no democracy at work here. Parts of the world were direct undemocratic colonies of Britain and France. A war for democracy against fascism could not be fought by Empires that maintained such colonies.
The principled position of revolutionary communism concerning World War Two is that it was an inter-imperialist conflict involving the unavoidable military engagement of Stalinist Russia in the interests of protecting from destruction by imperialism. Consequently communists were left with no option but to call for the mounting of a popular principled campaign against the war as a means of defeating capitalism thereby replacing it with communism. read full story / add a comment

The British Empire was based on the preceding Roman Empire. Both were based on their respective brutality, couched as civilization, hence the name Brutish Empire. During the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, decadence coupled with orgies and vomitoriums of incessant eating, were some of their features, before their fall. Others were wanton sadistic violence, coupled with the systemic rape of children. The adoption of a human rights instrument by the UN General Assembly in Dec 2008 led to the Global Financial Crisis in 2009. Changes involving international human rights law strongly favored the poorer Developing Asia, incl China, over the West. However, in human rights 'the ends do not justify the means'. A Western rebellion could help ensure an ethical human rights 'bottom-line' for all States and therefore fair competition without exploitation. read full story / add a comment

Police state measures reflect British current policy, in what is supposedly a peace process in British Occupied Ireland. Compromised civil liberties expanded secret service surveillance, eroded habeas corpus rights, formalized secret service tribunals, permitted psychological torture and internment without a transparent trial, all in the name of the terrorist narrative. All of this continues while at the same time, the British Government itself is being exposed for its state terrorism of murdering human rights lawyers in British Occupied Ireland. The Ministry of Defence in London has just paid out £14 million in compensation to hundreds of Iraqis who were illegally detained and tortured by British forces during the five-year occupation of the south-east of the country, demonstrating the British have broken their promises and undertakings to the international community once again. On the 18th January 1978, the Government of the Republic of Ireland brought an application against Britain, before the Commission of International Human Rights in Strasbourg (ii) that various interrogation practices--in particular the so-called 'five techniques', which included wall- standing, hooding and deprivation of sleep and food--and other practices to which suspects were subjected amounted to torture and inhuman or degrading treatment contrary to Article 3...The Commission unanimously found that the five techniques did constitute a practice of torture and that other practices amounted to inhuman and degrading treatment read full story / add a comment

This pipeline from the Alberta Tar Sands would be shipping millions of tons of unprocessed Bitumen, of the dirtiest sort, and it will cause pollution eventually along the pristine Canadian West Coast. This enbridge pipeline deal is owned by the Oil Monopolies of Canada, United States, and China. It is a threat to the very oxygen that is in the atmosphere which is already gone by 38% to carbon-dioxide. You can see that no coal, gas, oil or atomic energy is safe and in fact the globe is in the fail-safe mode now because more carbon-dioxide is cascading into the atmosphere than oxygen which cannot be replaced fast enough to plus the air for the air breathing oxygen needed to live on. do we remember some years ago. a African youth who with his friends was out playing football. if my mind recall it was during the Easter holidays. some years ago. today in Dublin the jury gave its verdict into the murder of this youth. we cant afford to be smug and sit back and say what can we do about it. becoming full with apathy. we cant afford to remain indifferent. with attitude it doesn't affect me. Today Ireland's Justice Committee is to start hearings on prostitution legislation. You can watch online, they are taking place in Committee Room 2 from 2 p.m. G.M.T. onwards. All of the organisations invited are members of anti-sex work coalition Turn Off the Red Light (TORL). TORL initially announced the news of these hearings last month, saying they are hopeful the new law they are advocating for will be enacted before the new year. It was only yesterday in a press release the Justice Committee stated today's hearing will be the first, giving some hope that there may be further hearings at a later date which will include sex workers. Also today a letter written by a sex worker and sent to the Justice Committee last month has come to light. read full story / add a comment

As Mr McGrath, who is diabetic, was in the 10th hour of a sit-in at the offices of Friends First along with five others, Dail colleagues were creased with laughter as they made a hoax call purporting to be from Pizza Hut, offering free pizza to the protesters. In on the mocking skit were Labour's Michael McCarthy, Fine Gael deputies Tom Hayes and Patrick O'Donovan and Fianna Fail TDs Michael Moynihan and Dara Calleary. Mr McGrath fell for the joke, he admitted yesterday. In the call, Mr McCarthy who has a reputation as a mimic, purported to be an Italian. "They should be ashamed of themselves. ''A deaf man has apologised for the death of a man who was hit by a bus following an alleged roadside altercation, a court has heard. Edward Connors, who is profoundly deaf, has been charged with the manslaughter of Eoghan Dudley. The 28-year-old died last Thursday evening after suffering severe head injuries in the incident in Dublin city centre. Connors, 29, who has been living in a homeless hostel in Dublin, was brought before the city's District Court where proceedings were translated through a sign language interpreter. Cahir O'Higgins, defending, requested that his client have an interpreter present when booked in to prison. He told the judge that Connors also relied on a methadone prescription and asked that all medical assistance be given to him in prison. No application was made for bail. The censored peace cry of traditional Irish republicans, has long been 'peace with justice' while Mahatma Gandhi himself said that injustice must be made visible for a real peace. Which politicians are actively working for justice in the island of Ireland, as opposed to those pontificating about it for political gain, ought to be a priority of all Irish people who genuinely love peace with justice. Peter Robinson and the DUP are not the only hypocrites collecting large salaries, while 'ruling by fooling' in Ireland. Overheard in Dublin 2. Leaving the rich untouched while bleeding the people dry appears possibly an official policy. Based largely on an assumption that there is 'really no suffering' and those claiming pain are delusional, our leaders suffer little and act accordingly. Three out of our top four ministers were once teachers, they have had long and successful political careers and have never known the suffering that comes from austerity. There is an insidious absence of understanding for those who carry this state, the workers for the most part in the private sector who provide vital services and support through tax for the equally vital services provided by our state. These privately generated taxes are vital, without which there would be not support. The forthcoming budget has apparently not been discussed in An Dáil though is only days away. Joe, walking on Grafton Street describes this as 'pathetic'. read full story / add a comment

As the Gaza conflict rages on, the Palestinians demand for human rights and return to their homeland continues for many outside of the occupied territories. Millions of refugees scattered throughout the Middle East live in refugee camps rife with violence, extreme poverty and no support or assistance. This twinned with getting stuck in the crossfire of many host-country conflicts such as Syria, Lebanon and Iraq make their situation even more intractable. When the opportunity to work does open up, the same people are greeted with more exploitation in trying to make a livelihood.
