November saw WSM public meetings about anarchism in Cork and Dublin, with 40 people at one and about 60 at the other. With the crisis and a growing employers’ offensive on wages there is a greater openness to radical ideas, and we will be holding more meetings around the country over the next couple of months. read full story / add a comment

international / anti-war / imperialism / press release Wednesday October 29, 2008 17:01 by pat c
The next three months will be vital in the Middle-East. With the US election in the offing it is becoming more rather than less likely that there will be an attack on Iran. Hands off People of Iran (HOPI) is an anti-war campaign that supports the people of Iran not Ahmadinejad’s regime.

HOPI has therefore organised a series of events in Dublin from 13-15 November to draw attention to the situation and to build support for the campaign. We will have two important speakers attending:

Yassamine Mather, leading Iranian political activist who is in touch with students and other oppositional groups in Iran

Moshe Machover, Israeli socialist and opponent of the Israel government with a long history in the anti-Zionist movement. read full story / add a comment

Resolution adopted by Jewish Socialists' Group national conference, June 1st, 2008.

This conference of the Jewish Socialists' Group is alarmed at the growing threat of war against Iran, expressed by Western politicians
and in the media, and unabated by reports that the Iranian regime has neither nuclear weapons nor plans to acquire them. We are concerned that despite the disastrous results of war in Iraq and unending bloodshed in Afghanistan, attempts are being made to accustom the public to these conflicts and make another, even more destructive war, seem inevitable.

"Argos announced profits in 2006 exceeding 8.1 billion euro whilst profits for the first half of this year are up 50%. Despite this Argos are refusing Workers a 10 % pay rise, which would bring hourly rates to 9.90 euro. The cost of importing strike breakers is greater for Argos than the pay increase sought by the Workers. However the prize for the company in winning this battle would be to break the power of the worker's union in Argos" read full story / add a comment
