Schools throughout Ireland are preparing for a bet with the government to highlight that more can be done to reduce harmful emissions of greenhouse gases in Ireland. The schools will bet with the Department for the Environment that they can reduce their energy consumption (hence CO2 emissions) a rate faster than the government proposes for the country as a whole. An 8% reduction in eight months as opposed to the government’s target of 8% in eight years was set for the schools in this year’s environmental project ‘the Irish BET’. read full story / add a comment

Al Jazeera showed a new videotape of one of the September 11 hijackers, reading his will and saying it was a Muslim duty to fight the "American enemy." The Liberties Recycling Plant in Basin Street, Dublin 8, is a model of community driven enterprise. As an example of sustainable business, it excels on many counts. It is a financially viable concern, recycles discarded clothes and textiles, and provides 15 employment positions for people who are trying to rehabilitate themselves from drug use.
