Tara Campaigners worldwide are supporting a petition to the Irish Government calling on them to re-inter the remains of individuals whose graves have been desecrated by the ongoing construction of the M3 Motorway in the Gabhra Valley near the historic Hill of Tara in Co. On Thursday July 29th the HSE were presented with 5,000 signatures on petitions demanding the maintaining of A&E services in Ennis, Nenagh and St.John’s Hospitals. The Socialist Party, who collected the petitions, claim that this is only the beginning and that an active campaign must be built. Socialist Party spokesperson, Cian Prendiville said: “The HSE are unlikely to give up on their agenda of centralisation and cutbacks without a fight. Petitions can be a first step, but what is needed is for people to come along to the upcoming health forum on July 29th and use it as a launching pad for a local action group.” read full story / add a comment

Scandal of Justice Continues: New Extension of Remand in Custody for Austrian Animal Protectionists Because the suspects refused to renounce animal protection, their remand in custody was extended on the grounds that there remains the risk they will perpetrate criminal offences! The District Court of Wiener Neustadt extended the remand in custody of the ten animal protectionists for a further two months today. Even after inspection of the numerous computers and photos that have been confiscated, not one single substantiating charge has been added and many of the existing charges that made the strong impression of having been fabricated have already been dropped by the Chief Public Prosecutor. Nevertheless, the authorities insist on further remanding the animal protectionists in custody. read full story / add a comment

This scandal comes just weeks after it was revealed that the prosecution falsified a statement of a crown witness On May 21 2008 masked and armed officers of the Austrian elite squad WEGA broke into homes and offices of NGO workers and organisations at the crack of dawn. Since that day, 10 people arrested in the raids have been detained in remand custody. One of the detainees, president of VGT (Association against Factory Farms) Dr Martin Balluch has, also since that day, been on hunger strike. The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) supports Care for the Wilds campaign opposing Tescos turtle sales. We urge our supporters to Boycott Tesco shops here in Ireland. CWI investigators who visited 32 Chinese Tesco stores in April and May discovered that staff do not adhere to Tesco's new slaughter policies. In 12 stores where CWI witnessed slaughter firsthand, staff continued to kill turtles by decapitation alone or by evisceration.
