Watch the video report from the protest held at the Tallaght offices of SDCC Monday 16th, 2011.

Christopher Cassidy and Alan Murphy had two horses taken last Monday week by South Dublin County Council. They have land and stables in Saggart. The horses were left overnight in Bawnoge and by the next morning the horses were gone. Other horses which were in the same field were not impounded by the Council according to the two men.

They have been fined 1300 for the two horses but an additional fee is incurred on a daily basis. They are fined almost €20 per horse, per day until the full amount is paid. The Council is refusing to allow the men pay by installments.

The horses were left out on public ground with no shelter, no fodder other than grass and no water. These people are not fit to keep horses. Why defend this ill treatment of horses?

Just because they are working class does not mean they have a right to abuse animals.
