Noel Murphy - Working Class Hero.

The Working Class Hero award 2011 was presented to long-time trade union activist, Noel Murphy, on Thursday last, St. Patrick's Day in the Spalpin Fanach pub, South Main St., Cork city.

Noel Murphy, National Secretary of the Independent Workers' Union, was presented with this year's Working Class Hero award by Cork's May Day Committee on Thursday last, 17th march.

Over the years, Noel has been involved in a number of organisations, among them, the Communist Party of Ireland, the Connolly Youth Movement, the Cork Operative Butchers' Society and the Independent Workers' Union

The presentation was made by Peter Payne (IWU) on behalf of the committee and was attended by Noel's partner, Angela, along with friends, old comrades and May Day committee members.
