Just 58.3% of all pupils across the UK passed their maths GCSE this year, down from 59.5% last year and the lowest since 2013. But the percentage of students getting the highest grades was higher in free schools than other schools.

It is simplistic to blame the recent spike in wildfires on climate change, writes Paul Homewood. A more likely cause is the rewilding of uplands, supposedly to cut carbon emissions, and poor management of forested land.

The Guardian, of all papers, has acknowledged that predictions about the disappearance of Arctic sea ice may ? just may ? have been exaggerated. Paging Gore Vidal: Can we have that prize back please?

As Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer urged restraint when it came to prosecuting people for social media posts. Why, then, was the book thrown at Lucy Connolly?

Report on Cooley Environmental & Health Group (CEHG) March Meeting

category louth | environment | news report author Sunday March 13, 2011 17:32author by Archbishop Michael D Hynes - Cooley Environmental & Health Group Report this post to the editors

Workshop Theme for 2012 decided

A Report on the 1st meeting of the Cooley Environmental & Health Group since 2011 Workshop

Cooley Environmental & Health Group Meeting in Omeath (CEHG)
A meeting of the CEHG took place in the Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth and all were pleased with the workshop held on 29th January past in The Strand Hotel under the theme of “Obesity”. It was agreed that the theme for the 2012 Workshop is to be on “SUICIDE”.

The meeting was informed that a member is to undertake and “ASSIST Course” in the near future. Others are considering similar paths as this topic is of much social concern in recent times via the media meaning there is much to be dealt with as to what causes a person is suicidal and how to address the problem and see what alarm bells are evident and what is the way forward for dealing with this phenomenon as responsible members of society.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday 22nd May 2011 @ 9.30 AM in The Strand Hotel Omeath.

Report on Cooley Environmental & Health Meeting held in Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth on Sunday 8th December 2013 on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
The meeting was successful and very interesting possibly due to the fact the next meeting on the 12th January is the last one before the grand finale the Workshop 2014 on the 25th January 2014. As well, - the theme for the workshop may be credible “Sustainable Economic Development at Local Level – An Alternative to Austerity”. How can we address the current problems sustain employment within this present economic situation of which we are all part and parcel of. The new website www.cooleyehg.webs.com is now up and running and many thanks’ were given to Prof Dennis Pringle who volunteered his time and ability into getting the site up and running. As well the Facebook page is proving to be a good source for communicating information to the populous especially the youth.

Next meeting is scheduled for the 12th January 2014 @ 10 am in the Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth.

It should be a useful seminar-meeting on Sustainable Employment at local level, but the archbishop has ended a sentence with a preposition, contrary to the usage advice of Fowler, and has repeated the preposition unnecessarily in this concluding clause "...within this present economic situation of which we are all part and parcel of." Such stylistic and grammatical infelicities could happen to a bishop! Best wishes for the event, of which I will be unable to be part and parcel.
