A month after the arrival of Scotland's Hate Crime Act and it appears reports of the demise of the Scottish Enlightenment may have been premature, no thanks to the SNP but due to the doughty spirit of the Scots.

Should governments be able to censor online content for the entire world? That's what Australia is claiming the right to do. But do they really think China and Russia should be able to choose what the world sees?

Greens bullying FF

category galway | environment | opinion/analysis author Friday July 02, 2010 22:01author by donkylemore - self Report this post to the editors

..recent acts passed by an unwielddy government

The notion is as absurd as it is reflective on how cravenly this Junior coalition partners will act do to stay in power.
The Greens are not the tail that wags the dog; they are the illegitimate pup which it might have been wiser - in political terms - to have put down the moment he was seen to have been overly frisky

The bravado of Mr Gormley defending the suggestion that the Greens are '''bullying'' FF is absurd in the extreme .
FF have given their erstwhile docile partners in government more than a little slack in allowing the Greens have their way of late on 2 largely;y inconsequential bills - the Deer Hunting farce and the Dog Act - They affect few and are socially irrelevant . They are merely a sop to the Greens .

What about the finance act which covered the bank guarantee .
'' its quite extraordinary really isnt it '' - I can imagine VB saying .. that a minister who had to be retrieved from his slumber to even appear when this was passed on a September night when Mr Gormley had retried early for a nights rest when the stake of the country's finances were in such a perilous state , Evidently Mr Gormley was uncontactable and had to be fetched by a garda to an emergency government ( cabinet ) meeting

The Greens wont walk from this government . Not on any issue But their pretentious political chastity posing as political heroism is a little hard to take . They have acquiesced on the most pivotal Green issues , and these so fundamental to their manifesto that it is simply outrageously facile that they should see themselves as some sort of significant entity in government in claiming that they had '' bullied'' their senior partner.

If Mr Gormley was so concerned about the future of this country why did he not awaken from his slumbers , at least to the degree that he might have objected to the inclusion of Anglo Irish - a bank which would never again act as a bank for ordinary people ; ? or did he return to the embrace of Morpheus ans .. sleep ( as has been alleged ) and let the ''real cabinet'' make this outlandish decision.?
Yes . The Greens have lost on the site of Tara , the detestable state of our water - for which we are being fined by the EU by the day for Our delinquency- The PPP's whereby our National roads are owned for 20 years hence , and for which we pay a fee to private buccaneers every time we pass a toll . Why on objection ?

Denis Healey once described Geoffrey Howe's attempt to bully him with rhetoric as "like being savaged by a dead sheep". This metaphor is often misattributed to C.J. Haughey but Haugheys own Fianna Fail party might just as well apply it to their Green bedfellows and their prancing, gesticulating, wafflingsand hissy fits and power plays. Fianna Fail are old hands at this taking a small party to bed, doing them over sweetly and watching the electorate obliterate them later as they take on all the negative energy of Fianna Fails scheming. The Greens must surely have noticed what has become of the PD's? Who?

Anyone who perceives the Greens as bullying Fianna Fail is falling for well presented theatre. Anyone who thinks that the Fianna Fail hardcore vote will believe it or will shift allegiance because of it is wasting their time. In fact the whole political game as it is operating is a waste of time.
