Time: 9.00pm ‘til late

Love Music Hate Racism Kicks Off the European Week Against Racism at Le Cirk , 32 Dame St, Dublin 2 with 3 floors of live music, and DJ's from around the globe celebrating music and diversity

This event gives musicians and music lovers the opportunity to come together and show their support the European Week Against Racism and Ireland’s Love Music Hate Racism Campaign.

European Week Against Racism (EWAR) runs from 13th to 21st March, where thousands of people actively engage in activities to promote and celebrate equal rights and the diversity of Europe.

The week centres around the 21st of March - declared by the UN as International Day for the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination. The date marks the historic racist tragedy of the murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa in 1960.

Information on the weeks’ events and representatives from various groups working against racism in Ireland will be there on the night to help anyone who wants to get more involved.

"There is no space for racism in a modern society. To grow as people, we must do our part to fight racism and make society a better place!"
Tommy Concannon - Ka Tet

" Hating a person due to the color of their skin has become a thing of the past. As the world moves into its future, we are all discovering that we are truly the same underneath our skin." Vonetta Lampkin - Farrago

''I am honoured to perform at this event for the European Week Against Racism. As Abraham Heschel said, ' Racism is man's gravest threat to man - the maximum of hatred for the minimum of reason'.''
- Gavin Mee

"The recent wave of immigration gave Dublin, and the whole country a rich and colorful identity. Multiculturalism is a treasure that we have to appreciate and develop through musical exchanges, like a white flag brandished at racial tensions" Jeremie - Groovalizacion

Notes on Performers

NORTH STRAND CONTRA BAND
The North Strand Kontra Band (formerly the north strand klezmer band) have been a welcome addition to the live music scene in Ireland ever since they first emerged in the winter of 2005. Performing original music influenced by various genres and styles, most notably that of the Balkans, their line up includes...Clarinet, Saxophone, Trombone, Piano Accordion, Banjo/Guitar, Tuba and Drums.

ZEALOTS
Their sound has been compared to Depeche mode, Interpol, Stereo Lab and Wire although it is difficult to pinpoint a direct influence. Theirs is an undeniably unique concoction. Ruth Kennington's angelic vocals drape over sound scapes that can shift from expansively liberating to claustrophobicly paranoid. The Zealots have had rapturous responses from the growing crowds at home and away and are steadily building a loyal fan base. The gigs are intense, energetic, vibrant and above all else ...loud.

KATET
KaTet are a young, up and coming 3 piece from the west of Ireland that deliver a punch or rock and roll that remind a crowd that it is not in fact dead. Utilizing their voices and instruments, these young fellows have blown away unsuspecting audiences across the country in the last 12 months and even earned themselves a spot at this year’s Electric Picnic

GROOVALIZACION DJ'S
Groovalizacion is a music lab, a meeting place and one of cultural exchange. Its doors are wide open to the curious kind eager to try the cocktail a la Groovalizacion, rich in flavours and ingredients collected along the way and the different latitudes. It’s a torrid, fun and passionate atmosphere which will take you from São Paulo to Casablanca, Berlin to Dakar, Bombay to Buenos-Aires, Hong-Kong to la Havana...

FARRAGO West African Percussion
Farrago is a Dublin based group of 6 percussionists who united to explore their mutual passion for the ancient art of West African. Percussion Farrago's members come Ireland, UK, France, and USA. Since its conception, Farrago has developed a reputation for creating dynamic and uplifting experiences for audiences which are rarely soon forgotten.

WORRIES OUTERNATIONAL with Guests
The Worries Crew are well known to the scene here in Dublin with their residency Sunday nights in The Button Factory. Serving up a crucial mix of Roots Reggae, Reggae Dancehall & everything in between! Their reputation speaks for itself!

GAVIN MEE
Whether its a song about a quirky choir with belly dancers, revolving conductors and tap dancing altos , or a step by step guide to going in search of a New Year’s kiss, seduction in the west of Ireland, or a hair product that isn't commercial enough to have a jingle written about it so he wrote one , Gavin wants to bring the audience into his anecdote and one that they can relate to like a jovial conversation after a few liquors.

RICHBEA
RichBea (aka Subway Mike) is a dj who loops, scratch's, & surprises the listener through the cosmos of funk, soul, hip-hop, disco, world, & party grooves. With more than one residency in Dublin , RichBea's selections are known to make you drop your glasses and shake your....

PUNKY REGGAE PARTY
Starting out life in Belfield in October, the Punky Reggae Party is a monthly club night dedicated to the sounds of Ska, Oi!, Punk, New Wave, Reggae, Mod, Soul and Rockabilly. We're happy to be having the lads drop in to spin some tunes.

Cah-44
Performance Poet Cah-44 has been living in a ramshackle post-Gorey house in North Dublin with an international rotating collective of a dubious, if opaque, nature. He needs a cat. But no mere cat. Perhaps a meercat.
