RNU No to Lisbon 2 protest,GPO,DublinSaturday 26th Report:RNU No to Lisbon 2 protest,Saturday 26th,GPO,Dublin
On Saturday the 26th of September outside the GPO on Dublin's O'Connell Street, the Republican Network for Unity hosted a protest urging the Irish people to vote No yet again in regards the Lisbon treaty this October 2nd,in the spirit of unity,RNU were joined on this protest by the 32 County Sovereignty Movement,Irish Republican Socialist Party and other republican,anti-imperealist and socialist activists who came to lend a hand and show support, approximately 25 -30 republicans participated in the protest.
A picket line was formed on the island accross from the GPO,while leaflets containing reasons and explainations as to why to vote No from a republican perspective were distributed to passers-by on either side of the street,
The reception from people on the street was positive, with most informing us they would be voting No,
As the protest was winding up,those participating were approached by two men who identified themselves as Gardai special branch, who proceeded to take names and addresses of those present, when asked why they were taking these details, their response was 'section 30 against the state'.
But despite the intervention from the special branch, this didnt stop the protest being a success,RNU would like to thank the organisations, republicans and all those who attended the protest, hopefully this show of co-operation between organisations will lead to more unity in the future, were republicans can all work together in future campaigns, big thanks to those who traveled down from Belfast, their help is greatly appreciated,
Let us hope that the No vote triumphs again on the 2nd of October, and that the state and the EU recognise the will of the Irish people,
Tiocfaidh ar la agus Beir Bua!

Thanks SDU. Are cops allowed take names without suspecting you of anything?
The law isn't clear, but if you refuse, they can arrest you for refusing to obey a lawful instruction or some other nonsense. You could try saying your name is Pat Murphy and you have no ID on you. A friend of mine said his name was Mike O' Velli, and the obliging Soup (Thick Country Vegetable) wrote it down. Good idea pulling out your phone and recording the Soup when he is talking to you.
