ARAN Protests Greyhound Racing Across Ireland

category national | animal rights | news report author Thursday September 10, 2009 22:54author by ARAN - Animal Rights Action Networkauthor email arancampaigns at eircom dot net Report this post to the editors

Abolish Greyhound Racing, Now!

Kicking off a visual demonstration outside Harold’s cross stadium and working our way with the help of local activists in Northern Ireland down through Cork city, campaigners and supporters of Animal Rights Action Network held peaceful protests and tabling events to highlight the cruel greyhound racing industry in Ireland. During a week of action from August 24 to 30 we worked hard to get the facts out to the general public about the cruelty and exploitation of greyhounds in the racing industry. Over the week and during the month of September ARAN will be working hard to raise awareness of the Irish campaign to abolish cruel greyhound racing and to educate people about the horrors of what gentle greyhounds endure before, during and after their racing lives.

Just recently in Co Limerick three Greyhounds were found dumped, dead and decaying in Kilteery Pier on Thursday 28th May 2009. All three dogs had their ears cut off to avoid detection of who was responsible for this callous but common act. Registered greyhounds have tattoos of identification numbers in their ears that can be traced back to the people who registered them with the Irish Coursing Club. Cases like these are not rare in Ireland and will continue for as long this industry continues and Animal Rights Action Network firmly believes that no welfare guidelines will ever make this industry a ‘nice’ industry, the only true way of ending greyhound abuse is to abolish the industry for good.

Animal Rights Action Network would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for the support and guidance from our dedicated friends at Greyhound Action UK, Greytexploitations and Greyhound Crusaders based in the UK, their knowledge and support has proven invaluable to our work here in Ireland for greyhounds.

The campaign will continue until this industry is abolished. To get involved with the campaign to abolish greyhound racing get in touch for more information and please do what you can to end this cruel, exploitative industry.
