In a landmark Employment Tribunal ruling, a judge has found that being critical of Islam is a protected belief under the Equality Act. This renders the Government's efforts to ban 'Islamophobia' largely pointless.

Ofgem has been caught using the climate Armageddon 'worst case scenario' RCP8.5 as the basis for its energy planning. This is a scenario so ludicrous even the Biden administration abandoned it, says Nick Rendell.

The No to Lisbon Campaign was originally called the Campaign Against The European Constitution. It has a core group of activists some of whom are members of the affiliated groups and some who are members of no group or party. The core group campaigns against the Treaty in its own right, does research, press work and outreach like the stalls.

15 organizations are affiliated to the campaign who all campaign against the Treaty autonomously but also send representatives to the campaign meetings.

These organizations are; Communist Party of Ireland, Community & Workers Action Group, Éirígí, Irish Anti-War Movement, Irish Friends of Palestine Against Lisbon, Irish Republican Socialist Party, Irish Socialist Network, Peace & Neutrality, Alliance, People Before Profit Alliance, People's Movement, Sinn Féin, Socialist Party, Socialist Workers Party, Workers Party, ATTAC Austria, ATTAC France

I don't have an electronic copy of the main leaflet we are using , of which over 20,000 have gone out already. We distribute material of all affiliated organizations on the stall.

Press Statement Vote No to Lisbon (www.sayno.ie)

Aug 26th, 2009
UNITE Offices, 55-56 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1

Referendum Spending Limits

The revelation yesterday (25/08/09) from SIPO, following enquiries from officers of the NO to Lisbon Campaign , that no limits existed for spending by companies (or individuals) on propaganda related to the issues of the Lisbon Referendum, shows a serious flaw in the legislation covering those matters.
We now have a situation, a mere six weeks before October 2nd, where vested interests, from Ireland or abroad, can spend millions in attempting to influence our people’s vote while registered and campaigning groups, complying with the rules, are severely restricted in the amounts they can receive on donations. We have a company like INTEL, facing a EU fine of over €1 billion for breaking anti-trust legislation, attempting to gain favour with the Commission by trying to influence the Irish vote.

The Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, should act immediately to restore balance and fairness in this campaign. He must either use statutory instruments or other emergency legislation or use the Companies’ Act or the Revenue Act to control and limit this unacceptable interference. SIPO has stated clearly that, for the last five years, they have been requesting from the Department of the Environment to remedy this situation with no apparent success.

This distortion of the democratic process must not be allowed to continue.
