LAUNCH OF THE ‘LASH BACK’ MAG – ISSUE ONE

Today’s Ireland is ready for a new socially sound, pro-equality, accessible, cool and informative read…LASH BACK ISSUE ONE IS HERE!

***
Lash Back is a not-for-profit feminist collective who believe in equality for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, class, religious or political beliefs or physical ability.

To help bolster a society that encourages equality and social parity, Lash Back has produced a fantastic, independent, ‘zine’-style magazine in an effort to aid empowerment, nurture healthy cultural norms, open discourse, and reinforce positive notions within a modern society often weighed down by the challenges of its time.

Lash Back will be available online and at retail outlets from May 14th 2009, for 3 Euro. All money made from the sale of Lash Back will go back into the collective and its activities.

***
IN LASH BACK ISSUE ONE YOU WILL FIND:

Articles on The Irish Constitution, body hair, the Columbian flower trade, conflict rape, Irish feminism today, sexual health, a profile of Choice Ireland
An interview with the ex-Moloko muso-queen from Wicklow, Róisín Murphy
Comic Strips by lauded UK cartoonist Jacky Fleming
Info on gender and feminism, recipe ideas, web links, reviews and resources

AN ACCESSIBLE FEMINIST ZINE - WHY NOW…WHY AT ALL??

Gender equality is essential for a stable, fair and sustainable society, especially in this ‘information age’ and through these crazy times of upheaval and change
The word 'feminism' scares people and has many weird connotations, but really it's just about equality – something that's good for everyone!
Women and men in Ireland need to build bridges, celebrate diversity, communicate, get involved, think about gender & forms of prejudice or oppression, and get back to our roots of ethical decency
Women need to feel empowered so we can tackle issues like domestic/ sexual violence, so we can improve on our 16 percent participation in political bodies, help attain social and monetary parity, abolish global female under-education, change the fact that there are still countries where women can’t vote, that most single-parent households are headed by women…etc etc...

Just curious: Whats the difference between Lashback and Rag?

author by Bi / Curiouspublication date Thu May 21, 2009 19:07author address author phone Report this post to the editors

That marginally less liberals care about lashback than Rag. Both groups have about as much connection to Irish society as a university equality studies course. What a load of self indulgant, middle class nonsence imo.

The actual difference is that RAG is an anarchist feminist group and magazine. Lashback is more broadly feminist, without the specific concentration on anarchist versions of feminism.

I thought I was never going to get an answer. I would probably identify more with Lashback. Look forward to more by them.
