Fundraiser for Palestine TONIGHT, Friday 13th March, The Other Place, 8 South Main Street, Cork, 8 PM

A fundraiser for Palestine is being held on Friday, 13th March 2009 in The Other Place, 8 South Main Street in Cork, at 8pm. An ad hoc group of Cork-based artists, filmmakers, and activists have organized this fundraiser to provide aid for Palestinians after the recent outbreak of violence in Gaza. Although the Israeli attack on Gaza has officially been called off, the humanitarian crisis there continues. Our group is not political or anti-Israeli; we formed in order to try and respond positively to a horrifying situation in the way we know best, through a celebration of art, film, music, and culture. In addition to raising money to provide emergency relief for victims of the recent violence in Gaza, we also aim to use this opportunity to strengthen our cultural connections with Palestine and to build cultural links with the Palestinian community, both in Ireland and abroad. The night will include short film screenings and video performances by Irish, Palestinian and international filmmakers and artists with a brief Q&A session to follow; music performed by Cork-based musicians; traditional Palestinian snacks, and a raffle. We will be taking donations at the door (minimum entry €5). Funds raised on the night will be donated to Palestine Red Crescent (www.palestinercs.org), a humanitarian organization currently providing emergency medical services to Palestinians in Gaza.
