Environment Minister John Gormley was interrupted during his speech to the Green Infrastructure conference this morning in Malahide. The environmental campaign group Plane Mad disrupted the conference to express their opposition to another runway at Dublin Airport. The group oppose the runway on the grounds that it will double the aircraft emissions at the airport. These emissions play a dangerous part in causing climate change. Two activists dressed as cartoon criminals mimed building a runway around the podium that Gormley was speaking from. Aircraft noise was simultaneously played from the back of the room. One of the "criminals" moved among the audience passing out information about the proposed new runway form his bag of "swag". The minister was also presented with a letter by the group which he accepted. |

Good to see that there is a community campaign working away against the runway too.
Do ye have other information on the consessions that are currently given to the aviation industry, in particular regarding internal flights.
any pics?
Great stuff people, fair play to ye!
Hi-sorry for r.late response.just spotted the article here, didn't know it was uploaded.you can find pics on our website www.planemad.org.Its under some maintanence at the moment due to tech.probs but that article with photos is still there.
In relation to direct subsidies to aviation. They are called PSO's(Public Service Obligation Subsidies)which is directly 45 million, which Irish taxpayers give. The exemption from tax works out at about 500 million per year(not exact)(that just Ireland).
Who are the most likely people to take internal flights(which is where the PSO money goes directly to)-I think you know the answer to that one......
