Protest against Lenihan's visit to UCD.

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Wednesday October 15, 2008 11:13author by Student Report this post to the editors

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan will be chairing a meeting in the Quinn School of Business at 6:30 pm.
lenihan_poster.jpg

It is important that we let him know that we will not accept cutbacks in our education. Meet outside the Quinn school at 5:50pm and let him know what you think. If he blocks our access to university, we'll block his!

what better place to vent your anger.

all out.

That is the worst poster I have ever seen. Seriously, if you want people to get involved in this action then this is the worst way of going about it. Is it a anarcho-punk protest?

Actually, it is a very poor poster- even from a communication point of view- the date and time should be clearer and more prominent.

Is there a march against student fees on the 22nd?

I've heard rumours of it in DIT but no actual posters or anything.

Best of luck to all out in UCD tonight when Lenihan rolls in.
Call him a bollocks, on behalf of grannies everywhere ;)

Get a report up quick too, interested in seeing if he even shows up after UCD students stopped the last FF Minister (well, he didn't show up...so I suppose its fair to say they stopped him!)

Go neirí libh.

The poster helped produce a good demo judging from reports in the national media today .It is a pity though that there isn't a left leaning Irish website that could carry reports of such protests as they happen .

There is a left leaning website that can collate the experiences of student demonstrations like this, you are on it. The responsibility to provide the media lies with the students themselves. Did they have someone on point on a computer down in the arts block or wherever where they could phone in reports and photos? It's one method of getting around the relative media silence on events like this.

I wasn’t talking about collating experiences , but reporting on them .Yes there was somebody with a mobile phone at UCD last night ,but what I'd like to see is a site that you could instantly send a report of a demo like this to , where it could be published straight away and readers could perhaps ask questions to the person who sent in the report .
Fair play to “reporter”who posted on this thread btw.

There will be a report back on the Lenihan protest & the USI demo tomorrow night. We are currently working on our own website. The combinations of essays and other college work, jobs and the small time gap between protests, limits the ability to respond quickly.
