The following information about amadeu Casellas has been edited together from various translation avalible online.

amadeu Casellas is a well known anarchist prisoner. amadeu spent already 25 years in jail, in fact he's the most veteran prisoner in Catalonia. He joined many collective protests, hunger strikes, rebellions, etc and suffered many tortures and reprisals as a direct consequence of his permanent confrontational attitude towards the system. Now amadeu thinks that it's time to be released, but the prison authorities don't want to release him, so he decided to take a step forward again and started an indefinite hunger strike. amadeu said that the only options are freedom or death. He's already at the sickbay of Quatre Camins prison and his health is going worse everyday.

The hungerstrike is to demand an end to his critical situation of imprisonment which has lasted more than 22 years along. 22 years paid for the struggle against the state and the expropiation of banks in the 70' s and 80' s to support workers struggles of the times. Because of the continued denials of the authorities to release him, amadeu decided to stop eating; hunger strike being the only way for him to make his voice heard amongst those which want to see him imprisioned.

from La Vanguardia, a Spanish newspaper:

"Casellas was 14 years old in 1973 and was working in a factory in Balenya when he discovered anarchism. He believed in armed struggle, and the neccesity of revolution to change things, even today, when he has turned 45 years and is convinced that guns don't fix anything, he considers anarchism, still to be the definite solution .

Follow up with postcards & make his case known! In Tolodo Spain, young anarchists have gone solidarity hungerstrike. In Catalonia his campaign is now being linked into other groups such as the Catalan independence groups. http://www.kaosenlared.net/noticia/65441/tots-i-totes-a...elles
In Canada an explosive device was claimed by telephone in solidarity.

He will only be freed if his case is made political & that means international support and examination of the hypocrisy at play

Amadeu Casellas has been imprisoned since 1986 for taking part in armed robberies of banks in which no person was shot or physically injured. Previous to that he had been imprisoned during the dictatorship. In total almost 30 years of his life have been spent in jail. It was in jail that hecontracted HIV in 2000. It is in jail that he has consistenly revindicated his anarchist philosophy known to many since the group he formed part of in 1973 distributed the money they robbed amongst tenants in danger of eviction. His case as a political prisoner is clear & the contrasts between his hungerstrike against unconstitutionally continued detention & those of more "political" prisoners in the recent history of the Spanish state is stark. Amadeu did not earn his prison sentence for over twenty killings in the name of Basque seperatism as the last hunger strike in the Spanish state, Iñaki de Juana Chaos did. Yet his demands for remission are similar and his protest against continued encarceration parallel. Yet Amadeu has not won an article in the British "Times" complete with photograph of his emaciated body now that he has lost more weight than de Juana Chaos had. There are no daily or nightly protests in his support, there is no international movement picketing the embassies of the state whose penitential system has systematically attempted to erode his dignity and now ignores his hungerstrike.

send him a postcard. just an irish postcard.
