press release
Friday August 08, 2008 18:33 by Volunteer - SpunOut.ie

SpunOut.ie re-launch
SpunOut.ie, a leading National Youth Organisation, is calling on the young people of Ireland to 'take control and become active citizens'. The charity has undergone a major redevelopment and is today re-launching the website www.SpunOut.ie to the nation.
SpunOut.ie Based on consultation with young people the website now includes a cutting edge support service database, with a new map feature that allows young people to find support services close to them quickly, anonymously and easily. There is also integrated access to Samaritans email support as part of a new partnership between the two organisations. SpunOut.ie aims to empower young people to speak out about life in Ireland today and to realise they are not alone in the problems they face growing up. The new website supports this by allowing young people to submit articles, pictures and videos directly via 'The Media Factory', comment and rate articles, talk with others on the moderated live discussion forum and share profile pages showcasing the media they have created.
Susan Quirke, a spokesperson for SpunOut.ie today commented "SpunOut.ie exists so that the young people of Ireland are empowered with information, tools, resources and opportunities to create positive change in their own lives, their communities and in the world. We are calling on young people to take control of their information, their media, their mental health, their physical health, their education and their lives to help generate a sense of well being in this often chaotic world. SpunOut.ie helps young people make this happen.'
SpunOut.ie is youth led in its ethos with young people involved in all aspects of design, development and delivery. The charity is run by a staff team of 8 young, talented professionals aged 23-30 who work in direct partnership with over 300 young volunteers nationally. SpunOut.ie is a recipient of a National Health Service Innovation Award, an Eircom Golden Spiders Awards and a Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Award. It has also received widespread praise from young people, the media, parents, youth and health professionals and leading decision makers. SpunOut.ie is actively seeking sponsors, funders and media partners.
